"Yikes, here's a HUGE story that it seems not enough folks are reporting on yet. Drone swarms of unknown origin this month apparently attacked an important Air Force base—'the first time a US airbase was temporarily put out of operation in wartime, something that never happened even in World War II.' "

"Stephen Bryen, former deputy under secretary of defense. Some speculation, but the bare facts are disturbing enough."

Drone Warfare Has Come to the United States

An apparent drone swarm near a US Air Force base unveiled numerous vulnerabilities in homeland air defense.

'Multiple waves' of unauthorized drones recently spotted over strategic US Air Force base

Lights on the drones suggested the operators may be testing security responses.

"This should be the biggest story in the country right now.

Barksdale is the HQ for our B52 nuclear bombers, it's where Bush sheltered on 9/11, and the drones are reported as 'far more sophisticated than anything seen in Ukraine ... and well beyond Iranian capabilities.' "

"Sophisticated drones attacked US base where we store nuclear bombers

Drones:
* Non-commercial signals
* Resistant to jamming
* Waves of 12-15
* Swept sensitive areas
* Long range control links
* More advanced than anything seen in Ukraine (Russ drones)
* Beyond Iranian capabilities

Multiple days of incursion, locals heard explosions Barksdale called 'weapons testing'

2nd base incursion of sensitive site IN US last 2 weeks."

@_L1vY_ I know the drones at Ft McNair in DC were reported but not having the ability in any way to protect the nuclear triad from these drones is a dereliction of duty. And the state actor who did it left the lights on so we could see them. That is hubris and the fact that a country could pull off this hugely complicated operation on our soil is deeply disturbing. @cowanon

@lawyersgunsnmoney
How do you know it's a state actor?

@_L1vY_ @[email protected]

@LillyHerself That was the surmise of the author based upon the technical capabilities of the drones themselves, the in-country support required to carry out the attacks, the sophistication of the attacks themselves and the target selection. I agree with the assessment. @_L1vY_

@lawyersgunsnmoney You don't think it might be fifth column? Thinking about those Americans who were blowing up - or was it setting on fire? - power stations.

@_L1vY_

@LillyHerself As my grandfather used to say, all I know is what I read in the papers. From what I’ve learned so far, the technology (offensive and defensive) tactics and operations are too sophisticated and require too much support to be fifth column. The electrical grid people were driving up in a pickup and breaking things so to me it isn’t comparable.
@_L1vY_
@lawyersgunsnmoney @_L1vY_ @cowanon How do you know it was a "complicated mission"?
Because they resisted rf interference? Maybe they didn't so much as carry a receiver.
A "state actor" left the lights on? blah.
It happened more than once but no jets were scrambled, no ground sightings led to their identification?
Story has holes.
@Jestbill Hey Bud if you have better info than the reporter, share it. Put up or shut up. Multiple waves of drones over a nuclear airbase that were able to defeat electronic countermeasures and showing we’re defenseless without jet fighters to shoot them down. Not fucking complicated at all /s maybe for you, that’s easy, I dunno. Don’t forget that I can look at all the air traffic on FltRadar24 and so can anyone else. That’s how people knew about the drones over Ft McNair in DC @_L1vY_ @cowanon
@lawyersgunsnmoney So answer the questions.
Why were there no jets?
Did the drones actually have electronic measures that could have been defeated?
Why would a 'state actor' leave the lights on?
We shot down a party balloon but sit defenseless against mystery drones.
@Jestbill You are trolling. If you’d read the article, you would know the answers to your questions are largely contained within. I’m not obligated to explain to you what someone else wrote and you don’t have any information to provide in response. You’re becoming tedious, go waste someone else’s time.
@_L1vY_ @cowanon Hmmm, interesting. I wouldn't want to be a certain orange man if Khamenei calls for Jihad.
@_L1vY_
This has been happening in Europe for months, primarily somewhat near the coast. It's well-known to be Russia by this point.

@me_valentijn @_L1vY_

If it is Russia, why aren't they using these in Ukraine?

@NilaJones @_L1vY_
Because there's no civilian aircraft in Ukraine, and they don't hesitate to shoot them down.

They're also being used to access infrastructure in anticipation of upcoming potential hybrid warfare. Whereas Russia is far past that point in Ukraine.

@_L1vY_

tysm, I hadn't heard about this.

tbh it's kind of reassuring that someone's trying to stop Pete "Holy War" Hegseth

@ProcessParsnip Definitely a lot is happening. They're ignorant enough to think they could just yell and batter Iran for a week and money would fall out. Turns out other countries have agency, too.
@_L1vY_ it’s fairly amazing that these aircraft fly missions in support of #OperationEpstienFury from US bases. Must cost heaps! It’s also amazing that these drones can appear in multiple waves and no tracking or ownership announced.
@_L1vY_ Where did Adam share this?
@josh Bluesky
@josh Almost everything I post is from Bluesky (because journos will post there but not here, even if they have a Fediverse account)
@_L1vY_ Ukraine has demonstrated that it's not that easy to guard against a container load of smuggled drones - they could be absolutely anywhere.

@_L1vY_ Huh. Just had to check to see if covered anywhere else, and it is.

"More than a dozen unsanctioned drones repeatedly swarmed a US Air Force base that is home to a nuclear bomber fleet — and were able to resist efforts to bring them down via jamming technology, according to military officials."

"The ominous devices appeared to be “testing security responses,” and they tried to enter and leave the base without being detected."

Mysterious drones swarmed US Air Force base home to nuclear bombers

New York Post
@_L1vY_ It is surprising that isn't making the main headlines, especially considering all that talk about "UFOs" on the east coast a while back. Though at that time, it was rightwingers trying to blame Biden for something.

@CStamp It's on ABC too. But yes it should be a front-page big deal everywhere. But then again, so should SO MANY THINGS 😭

https://mstdn.social/@_L1vY_/116299140004019604

@_L1vY_ To be fair, there is SO much. But drones on US soil would seem to be a big deal. Can't wait for them to hover over the Florida golf course. Biden better cement his alibi. ;)
@CStamp Omg you're right 😂
@_L1vY_ @CStamp There's no war in Ba Sing Se.
@CStamp @_L1vY_ I am old enough to know better but I read the comments anyway. For the love of whatever you hold holy, do not repeat my mistake 🙃
@_L1vY_ @rossgrady See, these drone swarms and the “industrial accident” at the Valero oil refinery in Port Arthur, TX on 3/23 just paint an awfully suspect picture …
@_L1vY_ "Barksdale AFB does not have air defenses, nor does it have fighter jets that can take down drones."
"It shelters long range nuclear cruise missiles (such as the AGM-86B) and will soon house a new Long Range Standoff cruise missile"
