Tell the Government: Protect VPN use in the UK

Take action! Protect VPN use in the UK VPNs help people to stay private and safe online. Young people use them to avoid harassment, or protect location data. Companies use them to make sure remote log-in to their networks are secure. Journalists, campaigners and whistle blowers use them to protect their work and themselves. But the Government wants to force people to verify their age when they buy a VPN. This will deter people from using VPNs to stay safe and secure online. Why are the government proposing restrictions to accessing VPNs?

We will be launching Peadar Ó Guilín's new novel, The Sword Garden, in April. In honour of that, we'd like to remind you that our Irish friends are bidding to hold Worldcon again in 2029. Peadar would be very happy to have a Worldcon in the city where he lives. So would we.

Across England just over a quarter of all children live in poverty, rising to over a third of children in London; no wonder many voters do not believe claims by our political class that the UK economy is not dysfunctional & just needs some tweaks to improve.

This level of child poverty doesn't happen by accident nor does it happen quickly; its an indictment of the callousness & inhumanity of our political class' management of the UK's political economy.

"Yikes, here's a HUGE story that it seems not enough folks are reporting on yet. Drone swarms of unknown origin this month apparently attacked an important Air Force base—'the first time a US airbase was temporarily put out of operation in wartime, something that never happened even in World War II.' "

"Stephen Bryen, former deputy under secretary of defense. Some speculation, but the bare facts are disturbing enough."

multiple people now have said that the thing they like about LLMs is that they don't have to deal with feeling embarrassed or humiliated by bringing questions to others that the others will judge them for.

this is a classic "solving a people problem with tech and having horrible side effects as a result" situation

and perhaps y'all ought to be less fucking toxic and judgemental to your coworkers.

I don't know about you, but I'd feel a lot better if we were sitting in a quiet and mossy forest, having a lively book club meeting with distinguished talking animals and other wild folk of the wood.

Its extremely difficult for migrants to get UK credit cards. It took me 11 years to get citizenship and in that time I just got used to not having one.

Economic discrimination against migrants via the credit system also has serious implications for housing. Being married gives me a work around. Everything is in my spouse's name. She now has a brilliant credit history and I continue to have none, like a gender swapped 1970s.

Anyway its cool you've never heard of this, when this kind of thing keeps showing up in political party platforms. Like, it really puts my experience in perspective.

The act of trolling I'm probably proudest of in my entire digital life was the time a prominent MRA kept leaving replies on my blog. Every comment was misogynistic and also flogging his book. I'd approve them, but only after quietly editing the title of his books to "I done a poo in my pants". It took him absolutely months to notice.
