“Bigotry among young conservatives has Republicans on edge

Huh. It was my understanding that bigotry was a feature of today’s Republican party, not a problem for it…

Bigotry among young conservatives has Republicans on edge

Many Republicans dismiss such party members even as white supremacists like Nick Fuentes gain popularity, but there’s growing unease at their presence in the rank and file.

The Washington Post
@samlitzinger
Yeah, but when the consequences of bigotry are felt, it’s suddenly a problem. Because this is an organization that cares about power, first and foremost.
@samlitzinger
Funny, seems they’ve learned what the GOP taught them.

@samlitzinger

It would be a good thing if people were ashamed of bigots again, whether they were in your family, your party, etc. I doubt Republicans are sincerely concerned except how it affects voters.

@samlitzinger Republicans rely on them! They one and the same.
@samlitzinger it should probably say "open bigotry that can be criticized" ...

@samlitzinger

One thing I know about Republicans is that they hate ... HATE ... looking in the mirror.

This is a 'them' problem that they created over the last 100+ years, and I don't care to read about something everyone already knows in a formally respectable newspaper like The Washington Post.

@samlitzinger Republicans pine for the days of the quiet, genteel bigotry of the pre-Trump era.
@samlitzinger @maleve
Amazing quote
"The migration of our politics online has created a perverse incentive structure. If you voice anti-Israel and antisemitic views, you get an instant reward in the form of clicks, likes and follows. This fuels the fallacy that the activist base of the party shares these views. So ambitious politicians and commentators trying to position themselves to lead ‘America First’ are misreading these digital leaves,” Brog said, “and coming to some deeply flawed conclusions.”
Wait, does he think that it's a *defence* of Republican politicians and commentators that they are *insincere* antisemites?

@samlitzinger

They're not "on edge" about bigotry. They're worried about loose lips.

@samlitzinger They just have a problem with everyone saying the quiet part aloud. ?Quietly supporting and passing policies off as something from the fringe was fine so long as they could lie to their voters. And their voters believed it. It can no longer be hidden since young influencers are saying eeeeeeeverything aloud.
@samlitzinger The party is totally on board with the bigots. They need their votes. What they don’t want is less extreme, traditional conservative members & independents seeing that, because they desperately need their votes too. Hence the Washington Post was the outlet to run this lie in. A paper more likely to be read by those less extreme than Fuentes & his cult.
