‘Which there ain’t no stern-gallery, sir, now we been degraded to a sixth-rate,’ cried Killick with malignant triumph. ‘Stern-galleries is for our betters, and I must toil and moil away in the dark.’

#Fedihelp Is anyone here in contact with #LadyGaga? My 14yo grandson who I love dearly is lying in hospital on life support. His mum, my daughter, is reading aloud for him the David Attenborough book he was planning to get. His favourite artist is Lady Gaga and my daughter is trying to contact her, to ask if she might send our boy a message to be read to him. It would mean a lot. I know this is a long shot, but can anyone put me in touch?
In London now, and I'll probably do some touristy stuff too, but I was quite pleased to walk around a wetlands conservation area this morning.

Anyone else going to see the tall ships in Baltimore Harbor this weekend? I was a kid in '76 when they came to Boston for the Bicentennial. I thought they were super interesting. Now that I have read (and re-read) "Master and Commander" and all the rest of the sea-faring series, I expect I'll find it even more interesting.

@stux

We WANT to guillotine them, but we'll SETTLE for taxing them.

There's an article on Axios today about the NY elections, and this is a quote from the article: "Suozzi said it is time for the Democrats' moderate wing to "wake up" to the threat posed to them by the democratic socialists."

Leave it to the "moderate" Democrats to take EXACTLY the wrong message from the surging of the Democratic Socialists. It is not a threat, it's a GIANT OPPORTUNITY. #USpol

It's only deregulation if it comes from the K Street region of France, o/w it's just sparkling permitted mass murder.
"Parcade" (Parking Garage Arcade) is what Canadians call a parking garage, according Laurence, the host of "Lost In The Pond" on the YouTube. His podcast usually focuses on UK vs. USA cultural similiarities and differences, but for a recent edition, he stirred in some Canadian culture.
I'm driving to my dermatologist because his AI receptionist asked me for my phone number and interrupted me after I got out 5 or 6 digits to ask for the whole 10 digit number. I started again and again was interrupted. Instead of answering, I said, "I have twice tried to give you my number and both times you interrupted me. Don't interrupt me. I will tell you when I have given you the whole number." I got an apology from the machine (heart-felt, I'm sure). I started giving my number and I am interrupted AGAIN to hear the AI thing say it wouldn't interrupt me again. I hung up. As I said, I'm going to the office and complain, and then try to re-schedule, as had been my plan at the start. Screw AI. #AI #customerService

My son has taken a part-time job giving music lessons at a store-front music school. Twice now he's had the client cancel the lesson just as he was getting ready to travel to the site. When this happens, he says he doesn't get paid, but the music school doesn't refund the client's monthly fee, either. It's aggravating for me, as I have set aside the time to ferry my son to the jobs.

Some possibilities:

1. This is unfair, but legal
2. This is unfair and illegal
3. My son is mistaken and he will get paid all or a portion of his scheduled time.

Anyone know how this works in Maryland?
