I gave up with almost everything I tried in order to #degoogle and "deBigTech". I'm also stopping everything I have #selfhosted except for #pihole

Fighting alone, when everyone else around me (friends, family, coworkers) doesn't care at all, doesn't make sense to me.

I will keep some things I already moved, but that's all.

Good luck to other, I hope at least you'll succeed

@djvdq I understand that feeling. But you need to be persistent, take small steps and don't just use private options just fir the sake of it, use them because they are better.

Don't try to force everyone around you to change, but you can guide them for better options when they need it.

Just a couple weeks ago a friend asked me for simple note taking app, since all on the Playstore have ads. I used that opportunity to teach him about F-droid and open source alternatives.

I've convinced a couple friends to get a Synology NAS over the last year. Not because of privacy, but because they wanted a way to sync their files and pictures without having to pay for cloud storage.

With enshittification and rising prices, people are getting tired of big tech. And everyday open source apps get better while paid options are getting worse.

Do it for yourself and when they reach out for help guide them into better options.

@DGutie thanks. I know what you write, and while I personally was able to do bigger steps, I was trying to do them as small as possible with everyone around. Looks that just making those super teeny tiny steps was way too much for everyone around me.

@djvdq Although I do not fully understand the reasoning, you are free to make that decision, of course.

And it makes me sad 😞

@theron29 my reasoning is that I have to fight with literally everyone, about both (de)googling and using big tech products and services in general.

In current form (which I'm not able to change, although I've tried) I need to live inside Google ecosystem, use whatsapp, have fb account etc.

@djvdq The key is always to degoogle to the extent you can live comfortably with. Tho I do think you probably tried that too and then went in deeper. Unfortunate, but understandable.
@skywalker2k17 yep, I know that. But this is the thing - I basically was able to leave just gmail (which I was using as spam email anyway) and that's all. Which isn't degoogle at all.
