"President Donald Trump's approval rating fell in recent days to its lowest point since he returned to the White House, hit by a surge in fuel prices and widespread disapproval of the war he launched on Iran, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The four-day poll, completed on Monday, showed 36% of Americans approve of Trump's β€Œjob performance, down from 40% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted last week."

@wdlindsy @NicelyManifest I'd like to meet a few of the 36 percent people and give them each of them a good kick in the ass. I don't think it would help them get a grip on reality, but it would certainly make me feel a little better.

@mlanger @wdlindsy 36% is a staggeringly high value for a serial criminal.

Do Americans rely so much on influence and an absence of reflection and thought?

Trump is decisive. That is probably his only asset. But that is also useless when decisions are flawed.

@NicelyManifest @wdlindsy I agree with everything you're saying 100%. I also believe that at least 36% of Americans are incapable of independent thought or are downright evil. How else could anyone be in favor of what he is doing to this country?
@mlanger @wdlindsy Herd behaviour is enormously powerful, alas.
@NicelyManifest @wdlindsy I think it goes beyond that. I think it's tribalism. Thinking that your group is so much better and smarter than the other group and ignoring every bit of evidence to the contrary. Divide and conquer is the goal and they've done an excellent job.

@mlanger @wdlindsy Yes, standard method for quashing public scrutiny of those in charge is to pit them against each other.

Our genetics still has a long way to go to lose tribalist tendencies.

Mindfulness helps you observe the often primitiveness of your subconscious coercions.

@mlanger @NicelyManifest @wdlindsy

They would have to both hear about the damage and believe it's happening to relinquish their faith in Trump. The maisma of regressive-right propaganda they are immersed in makes that extremely unlikely.

And yes, that it is literally starting them in the face at the gas pump still isn't sufficient for many, not for all, but for most. Dealing with the ego hit of accepting reality is just too painful.

@joeinwynnewood @mlanger @wdlindsy Thanks for taking time to give that detailed perspective - which is of course spot on. American culture pays a gigantic price for cheerleading the outspoken forceful loud figure. At University, the 'football' team members have top status ... (it is a hand ball game with occasional kicks).
@NicelyManifest @mlanger @wdlindsy There’s always been an element of β€œwho gets posed the question/ how representative is their sample.” But now there’s an added layer: if posed that question in the first place, *who feels safe responding* and does that skew the result?
