Poll for autistic people. Do you think in binary terms - good/bad, black/white, good/bad? I would say I do. I am not saying I think simplistically, but I do want to draw a clear conclusion if I can (often I can't).

Option 3 is for those who think in nuance, but want others to talk to them in binary terms.

@SecondUniverse paradoxically I voted a binary "No".
But of course sometimes I do give/ask for binary answers.

Unable To Answer is for those with difficulty assessing their internal state.

That seems to be my answer the more I think about it.

I think in black/white, but I am intersex and nonbinary, so nature is basically fucking with my mind.
@SecondUniverse I went with no though my state of mind is not so clear either. I definitely have a tendency to want to think in absolutes to simplify complexity but I am also VERY aware intellectually that that doesn't really mirror reality and I am more and more trying to keep this in mind and think in nuances and being ok with the grey zones. (I'm autistic)

@SecondUniverse
For me I usually think of things on a scale, such as probabilities. Then there can be thresholds which can categorise ranges on the scale (e.g. hungry, not hungry), and those thresholds can be on their own scale ranging from completely arbitrary to natural bifurcation points (e.g. the boiling or freezing point of water).

So yeah, it's a little complicated.

@SecondUniverse It's hard for me to answer, because I sort some things into binary categories, but not others, and I'm consciously trying not to think in binary terms.

@SecondUniverse
Multiple shades of grey, and infinitely overlapping magisteria.

Of course, the holes one falls down analysing which apply in this particular case have a whole depth of their own.

@SecondUniverse i think it's more about categories with absolute rules rather than "fuzzy" logic

@SecondUniverse often but not always. Catch is that I'm not always aware when I am.

Though, hell, I still have a hard time accepting that I'm autistic. Still gaslighting/bargaining with (in the grieving sense) myself into thinking I could hold down a full time job again.
