We're in yet another oil shock. It will produce yet another inflation crisis. Another recession is likely.

It's a great time to remember that actually...the future is electric!

We need to invest in Canadian security, stability, and energy independence.

Renewable energy is the cheapest, safest and most resilient way to power our economy.

Nobody ever invaded a country for its wind or sunlight.

Canada must remember that the future is electricity, not fossil fuels

The industries of tomorrow demand abundant, low-carbon and reliable power

The Globe and Mail
@avilewis It's not even possible to have a future based on fossil fuels... Because they're based on fossils.... There are no new dinosaurs to replenish... Once we burn them all up... That's it...

@avilewis

Ontario's fascist-leaning premier prefers petrochemical powered vehicles, thank you very much.

Were gonna fill a twenty-five mile four-football-fields-wide cave full of 'em, folks.

So don't go all goo-goo over these invisible so-called 'electrons' some pencil-neck geek invented if you wanna come out this way.

@avilewis
This one was deliberately caused by the incredible incompetence of the US government.

All because we decided to make an imbecile absolute dictator.

@avilewis

I dislike the simplicity of statements like:

"Nobody ever invaded a country for its wind or sunlight."

Memes are not a good way to explain policy.

There are plenty of good arguments to support renewable energy.

@corvus @avilewis for the majority of people you are incorrect.

We wouldn't be in the mess we are now if voting and policy were based on a rational weighing of facts. Sloganeering, memes, passion, fear and selfish desires are what drive people to get out of their default apathy and vote for things.

People are busy and only willing to spend so much mental energy outside their everyday interests. A simple, understandable, sticky message is more effective at spurring collective action.

@corvus @avilewis I was just going to say I think a lot of British Empire people invaded places because it was sunny, in fact

It's not that sunny here

@noodlemaz @corvus @avilewis I was going to make a comment about plantations and colonialism but opted against it since I don't want to be overly pedantic about what is a good point for the current era

@avilewis Any plans to encourage electric vehicle manufacturing and adoption? The Brightdrop truck was manufactured in Canada and recently cancelled - but was a great way to reduce emissions from urban delivery vehicles.

An incentive that allows businesses to write off 100% of an electric vehicle purchase in the same year it was purchased worked well to spur adoption before.

@avilewis Electricity needs to be manufactured commercially, right ??πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€” That again makes the corporates powerful 😀😀😀😀😀

@codewizard @avilewis You can install your own solar panels. You can also install a small wind power plant on your land, but it requires you to own enough land so the neighbours, and you, are not disturbed by the sound from power plant.

To increase your independence you can also install a battery bank. I don't think wind + solar + battery is enough in 100 % of the cases so you might still need to be connected to the grid if you want electricity all the time.

@Strongbow @avilewis why is solar power not sufficient for your daily requirements ??πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”
@codewizard @avilewis It can be during the summer but in the winter the sun is not up many hours per day.
@Strongbow actually in the winter, the sun is warm and very pleasant πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

@avilewis I dunno man, I'm pretty sure Hawaii might argue about sunlight and invaders. (For the record, I don't think it should be a state, it belongs to the Hawaiians.)

While Hawaii is a strategic position in the Pacific, the primary reason America occupied it was so the Dole corporation could rape it. Subsequently, her beauty, sunlight and trade winds were exploited for the benefit of the invaders to the great detriment of the natives.

Just saying, any resource that can be exploited is a target for invasion. Existing windfarm infrastructure is just as valuable as a working oil field.
