I mostly edit posts to fix typos I didn't catch until someone has already favourited/boosted.

Got this stuck in my head and had to get it out. Just in case someone needs it.

Student: “So Elon Musk is a trillionaire?”
Me: “Yup.”
Student: “How did he get that much money?”
Me: “Well, he doesn’t really have a trillion dollars cash. He just owns a lot of stock in companies that are valued at a trillion dollars.”
Student: “So those companies make huge profits?”
Me: “Oh gosh no. They all lose billions of dollars a year. All of them. Huge losses.”

The Economist headline: “Gen Z Mysteriously Hates Capitalism and No One Can Figure Out Why.”

The amount of propaganda bots trying to sign up lately is bonkers. The fediverse feels like it’s becoming a battleground for information warfare. Be safe out there

Lobbying should be illegal. The only people politicians should be legally allowed to communicate to privately about any legislation or regulations are their constituents (and company's are not people, nor should they every be treated like they are).

Corporations should be allowed to make public presentations to politicians under oath with penalties for lying; but under no circumstances should they be allowed to lobby behind closed doors.

As an aging boomer who has never missed a vote, I urge the youngest generations to vote like your future depends on it.
It absolutely does.
'Virtual OS Museum' Lets You Try 570 Extinct Operating Systems - Slashdot

You can try 570 extinct operating systems at a new "virtual museum," according to a new article by ZDNet. Their reporter downloaded the ancient OS NeXTSTEP, and was "shocked" by how easy it was to run it, "and by the sheer number of operating systems to choose from." Essentially, what you do is d...

Draft script: "I am very concerned about the SpaceX IPO. I understand funds I own may soon automatically be forced to buy stock in this grossly overvalued company with horrendous corporate governance concerns. I am requesting an urgent meeting to spell out for me any exposure. I am sharing this article, and would appreciate you pass it on to your analysts and be prepared to discuss the details with me. Can we set up a call for tomorrow?"

SpotGamma™

ACTION: Call your financial manager about SpaceX IPO ASAP

Background: SpaceX has filed to go public at a grossly overvalued $1.8 Trillion. The fundamentals in no way justify inclusion in index funds, BUT NASDAQ rules were CHANGED so that it will be included. As a result 401Ks and IRAs will AUTOMATICALLY buy the stock, giving this worthless company your money. It is the greatest grift of all time.

To Do: Contact your financial firm immediately. More below...

NPR laid off about 4 percent of its content division, including 10 journalists and some veteran reporters.

""People love science," NPR Science Correspondent Nell Greenfieldboyce, who was laid off Wednesday, said in an interview for this story. "It's such a break from the political and economic and often grim news to have something more inspiring and curiosity driven. I thought it was a great blessing to have the opportunity to give that to people."
