Elon Musk took over Twitter and turned it into the anti-woke, fascist-amplifying X.

There’s been debate about whether to stay since he bought it. But seeing how it’s evolved and the recent Grok deepfake scandal, there’s no good argument to stay.

I stopped posting there. You should too.

It’s time to stop posting on X

There aren’t any good arguments left to stay on Elon Musk’s platform

@parismarx Leaving feels principled. But principled exits can also be self-selecting echo chambers in disguise, you feel cleaner, the platform gets less diverse.
@bayo @parismarx staying in a room full of fascists won't stop them being fascists. That's not how it works. Nobody is obligatted to visit the Nazi bar.

Why the argument that you have to stay on social networks to provide opposition is complete nonsense

Why the argument that you have to stay on social networks to provide opposition is complete nonsense

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> Author: Mike Kuketz, translated from the original in German The argument that you can’t leave platforms like X or TikTok because there would otherwise be a lack of “dissent” and “opposition” is untenable for several reasons - it’s simply complete bullshit. It is based on a false assumption about how these platforms work and what impact one’s presence there actually has.

Leave X - Protect Democracy

@noodlemaz

Speaking of a room full of fascists, Mastondon has not exactly been a free space for those critical of Israel’s fascist regime. Many pro-Palestine and anti-genocide voices have been silenced here in the past 3 years.

@bayo @parismarx

@micchiato @bayo @parismarx sorry to hear that. I'm yet to encounter it, doesn't mean it's not there of course
@noodlemaz @micchiato @parismarx Hard to miss. Moderation power on any platform, decentralized or not, reflects the values of whoever holds it.

@bayo @micchiato @parismarx but Masto isn't one thing, it's hundreds if not thousands of instances.
If I've never had a pro-Palestine or anti-zio post censored (I haven't, I've been on a medical science instance and now a gaming one), how else would I have seen it?
I'm listening, and as I said I know my lack of experience doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I have blocked and muted Zio weirdos/trolls without issue.

@bayo @parismarx I don't find the echo-chamber discourse particularly useful. You could accurately describe all of the biggest media platforms as echo-chambers (social or otherwise). Reddit is an echo-chamber, BlueSky is an echo-chamber. Mass media itself is an echo-chamber.

All these forms of media serve the function of re-enforcing an ideological dogma, be it tech-bro Libertarianism on Reddit, Groyper fascism on X, or dead-end lesser-evilism on BlueSky. They are all adept at whipping up a McCarthyite hysteria against dissent.

The quality of discourse on all these platforms is trash. Anybody with actual principles is quickly censored, throttled, shadow-banned, flooded with abuse, or chooses to keeps their mouth shut to avoid retaliation. It turns out we need independent platforms which are willing to punish the majority of little Eichmanns instead of coddling them for ad revenue and reducing themselves to the lowest common denominator.
