A message especially for my Canadian male followers out there today, but it applies to all.

If you see a story from a woman calling out the behaviour of a man, believe them. Yes, believe them over the 'broโ€™, especially when there are multiple corroborating stories.

Donโ€™t feign impartiality.
Don't ignore.
Just believe them, it's not that hard.
It's long past time we do this as the default.
It will make us all better in the long run.

That is all.

And if you're wondering, yes, this is a post about Mr. Ohman.

@chris it is a fool who makes an enemy of Ms Que Banh and Mr Ohman is that fool.

@Lazarou @chris

@tezoatlipoca @chris yes, he called the Police on Ms Que Banh for being anti-Police, upset her Ma and everything!

The caucasity of the man!

@Lazarou @tezoatlipoca @chris at least cleaning up the smoking wreckage of his life will give people in AB gainful employment!
@Lazarou @tezoatlipoca @chris I didn't know about this. Anyone feel like explaining what happened?
Ms. Que Banh (@[email protected])

Chad was the wankerbutternoodle Mstdn.ca owner who had called the cops on me for some past political posts. It was using cop violence on POC. The cops showed up & left fast, because it was all BS. It traumatized my Mom & enraged me. The cowardly liar then denied it when I posted about it all. A bunch of white folks supported him & didn't believe me. I knew #karma would catch up with that liar, sooner or later. Now, it has. Cops will be coming after him, for a real crime. I told you all that Chad was a dirty, lying weasel. Maybe, believe me instead of the white guy, next time ๐Ÿคก https://toot.cat/@catzilla/116267551374750231 #Criminal #Fraud #Canadian #Alberta #Liar #ToldYouSo #ConMan

@Lazarou @tezoatlipoca @chris That's gross ๐Ÿ˜•. Do we have any examples of what these posts were that caused this to happen?

I could *potentially* understand if these were posts that were threatning violence on specific people or targets *and* he was in a position of power that *required* him to do so - like in an admin position - I can't really make my own mind up on something with the generalities of the post - but if true that's seriously icky.

If this was just sticking a nose in, than yeah that's really, really icky.

Not trying to feign impartiality - I'm just very unaware of the backstory.

@javensbukan @tezoatlipoca @chris he just sounds like another entitled white dude who thinks he is the Police, a problem on the Fediverse and in FOSS in general.
And then there's the charity funds thing....

@Lazarou @tezoatlipoca @chris It was the biggest thing.

But there has been multiple reports from multiple people about his... hmm.. how can I say this. Let's say... red flags about his character and judgment.

@stephanie @tezoatlipoca @chris quite a familiar story coming out, 'entitled cishet white dude in Technology'
We know where this goes.

@chris

Going to my first counter-protest against a transphobic group a few years ago opened my eyes to this. It's good to want to be fair and impartial, but a problem arises when you never get to experience the other side of the story, because it's never directed towards you. Once you feel fury directed at yourself because people think you're a member of the group they are targeting, then you really understand what "privilege" means. We can't let people be broken before believing them.

@alessandro indeed. the rule applies in many many cases across our society. I believe the push back to progress that we are seeing is a direct result of many of those higher-forces seeing their expectations and assumptions about how they can control the world crumble. And that's a good thing for equality, and for all of us to live in a freer and fairer world. But it takes those of us in the privileged group to be willing to first realize our own privilege and then learn how to recalibrate our own stances and statements.

@chris

Privileging the veracity of one sex over the other is just incredibly dangerous. And this in a world rife with Pam Bondis and Laura Loomers.

Yes, take accusations seriously. Investigate. Try them in court. But to advocate for automatic guilty verdicts simply because "a woman" is pointing a finger at someone else is no "better" than sex-swapped Salem witch trials.

"Men can never be trusted but women always can" is the distillation here and that is nothing but performative nonsense.

@kitkat_blue you're right. So why have we been privileging the male sex over others for the past god-knows-how-long?

I'm not advocating automatic guilt of any sort, and you know this. I am urging people to believe victims over those who employ common patterns of behaviour to claim innocence and deflect.

That could be any combination of male, female, transgender, or any other classification you choose. But in this specific case, and in a very very large number of cases in our society today, the dynamic is:

(often white but not exclusively) male vs. multiple women.

But I suspect you know this and you are simply saying what you always say to people who raise this point because you don't like the fact that men are being called out.

I'm not here for it and won't put up with it.

You can choose to recant your statement and acknowledge that what I said is reasonable and that this is a recurring, serious problem in our society, or you can move on.

The ball is in your court.

@chris

No sex should be privileged over another.

And you cannot fix existing privilege by promoting privilege elsewhere.

Taking an accusation seriously (my position) is NOT the same as advocating "default belief" in the accusation (your words).

"don't like the fact that men are being called out"

Ok, that made me laugh! Ty!

I'm really sooo glad that there are men like you demonstrating that "not all men" disparage our claims of sexual abuse and rape. Thank you so much, Sir Knight! ๐Ÿ™„

@chris @kitkat_blue

โ€œPrivileging the veracity of one sex over the other is just incredibly dangerous.โ€

Indeed, that makes it such a shame that weโ€™ve been doing it so consistently for so long. So long and so deeply entrenched is that privilege that people make reflexive judgements without needing to bother with finding anything out. Making the attempt to invert that reflexive reaction seems like a good thing for the time being.

@chris
Support the victim and give them your trust, but follow up with verification of claims to the extent you can.

That's the treatment I would hope for if someone accused me of something, or if I accuse someone.
