“We don’t want it, we don’t want it!”

All Russians are happy that Putin shut down the internet in Moscow and Saint Petersburg… at least that is the North Korean style messaging from Russian tv 1.

@randahl 😳🤦🏻🤣
@randahl preferred kim kardashian's break the internet to putin's
@randahl If this is what you get for invading your neighbor, I would call it a just punishment...
@[email protected] @[email protected] I think this is in Iran. That there are sim cards in different colors. A color allows free access to the Internet. The others don't. Probably it is in Russia exactly like that. Putin and his friends have free internet access. But not the people.

@Life_is @randahl Authoritarian regimes are always hotbeds of corruption. Not by choice, but the nature of the regime requires corruption as method of generating and rewarding loyalty.

There is a very interesting book by Frank Bajohr about the corruption in the Third Reich "Parvenüs und Profiteure". It is easy to recognize the similarities...

@randahl I only have a few acquaintances from Russia, who I haven't heard from in a while, but I'm pretty sure they're pissed about the internet block.
@randahl I thought it was a Lawrence Welk show taped in North Korea… Yikes!
@randahl as a bit of good news, they've started blocking telegram near front lines. Long term this is ofc going to hurt lots of people.

@randahl

At least they can drink and visit some psychiatric hospitals.

Alcohol Dependency in Russia Increases for First Time in a Decade

Alcohol dependency in Russia has increased for the first time in 10 years, Russia’s business daily Kommersant reported Monday, citing data from the state statistics agency Rosstat.

The Moscow Times

@randahl

State TV. They’ll probably start recommending Siberian labor camps as vacation spots next. The oppressed Russians love to do business on their phones. A batch of moonshine is often sold via Signal. And a portion of caviar that fell off a truck is also often ordered via Signal.

Bullshit, of course. The Russians are pissed off about the lockdown, and Putin and his cronies are now trying to make it seem like you can solve the loss of your business with a game of badminton.

@randahl I may voice an unpopular opinion, but at this point in the e14n timeline shutting down the Internet would probably turn out positive in the balance of things. Current trainwreck? Irrepairable.

It would immediately halt Big Tech’s Big Surveillance&Control and halt/reverse Big Slop’s Wreck Your Cognitive Skills program.

We would have to relearn navigation, sure. We would have to relearn human to human interaction, sure. Positive, in the balance.

@randahl
The Russian regime chooses full isolation.
@randahl one small upside to this is any Internet traffic now coming from Russia is known to be government sanctioned so can be easily identified to be blocked.
