I just proofread the American Astronomical Society response to SpaceX's response to AAS's petition to deny on SpaceX's million sat filing. It's a great document, but the fact that we need to say any of this (and spend volunteer time fighting SpaceX's highly paid lawyers) is completely infuriating.

I need to go outside now, really tough that I'm in a city and don't have a hay field available for easy rage-screaming.

I had a fantastic bike ride to the recording studio, where I recorded a podcast and probably depressed everybody with the dangerous state of orbit and reentries (almost as good as a hayfield-rage-screaming session, I guess). Now time to try to debug my incredibly bad code for the *hilarious secret project* with @astrokiwi.bsky.social

(Wish me luck, I am pretty sure I am just getting worse and worse at coding over time)

The calculation is definitely not peer-review ready, but it will be good enough for *hilarious secret project*!

Now time for an 8pm media interview about satellite pollution stuff. Which would be great, except that I have to run a fairly important Zoom meeting at 6am tomorrow (thank you very much, daylight savings time, for making this even shittier timing than it was originally).

@sundogplanets

Thank you so much for taking the time to post on here! You are amazing!

@sundogplanets you have programmers available to you, just ask!
@sundogplanets @[email protected] you're not getting worse, you are getting better, which usually means one obtains better understanding of what bad code is and how much we write that is bad 😁
@sundogplanets @astrokiwi.bsky.social Please post a link to the episode when it drops! I would love to listen to it.
@sundogplanets You're in Christchurch, right ?
Go ahead and scream. No-one will take any notice.

@sundogplanets

Maybe if you rage-scream a haka, it will seem quite ordinary in NZ.

@sundogplanets Sit in your car, turn the engine in and crank up the radio; works wonders.
@Dealiah I don't have a car here! But good suggestion if I did have one :)

@sundogplanets Thank you for working on this.

Go ahead and scream. If anyone asks why, tell them. Maybe they will scream too.

@sundogplanets Maybe you can find a cushion or pillow to scream into? Or get into an empty elevator and scream there? So much enraging stuff happening right now
@sundogplanets
The absolute worst part is that orbiting AI data centers are a complete bullshit idea made up only to justify SpaceX buying xAI. It's just a cascading series of mistakes, where Musk uses one of his not immediately failing businesses to buy up one that's crashing to protect his undeserved reputation as a brilliant businessman. Now he has to put real money into a crackpot idea that will accomplish nothing but damage near-earth orbit and the night sky.

@VATVSLPR @sundogplanets If I recall correctly, Musk was just copying Bezos, who talked up this (complete bullshit) idea of orbiting AI data centers as an idea for whatever the heck his late-to-the-party space boosters were going to do.

I mean, everyone who isn't a moron can see that space tourism is a bust. And it's hard to see there being a market for a second Starlink - not that the first one is a good idea. So what's supposed to be the market for Bezos's space rocket?

Attached: 1 video Musk thinks data centers in space wouldn’t need ANY maintenance. I loved @[email protected]'s response to this on our latest episode of Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000. Check out episode 73: "Data Centers in Space!?”. (with @emilymbender)

@MyricaGale @sundogplanets OMF! I have had to post this on my FB site as all my close friends are on that. They just have to realise how far from reality the US is sliding!
@connynasch @sundogplanets Great! It needs to be made known far and wide - it will affect everyone on the planet. And it's being hidden behind Donnie and Bibis Big Iranian Adventure.
