I just proofread the American Astronomical Society response to SpaceX's response to AAS's petition to deny on SpaceX's million sat filing. It's a great document, but the fact that we need to say any of this (and spend volunteer time fighting SpaceX's highly paid lawyers) is completely infuriating.

I need to go outside now, really tough that I'm in a city and don't have a hay field available for easy rage-screaming.

@sundogplanets
The absolute worst part is that orbiting AI data centers are a complete bullshit idea made up only to justify SpaceX buying xAI. It's just a cascading series of mistakes, where Musk uses one of his not immediately failing businesses to buy up one that's crashing to protect his undeserved reputation as a brilliant businessman. Now he has to put real money into a crackpot idea that will accomplish nothing but damage near-earth orbit and the night sky.

@VATVSLPR @sundogplanets If I recall correctly, Musk was just copying Bezos, who talked up this (complete bullshit) idea of orbiting AI data centers as an idea for whatever the heck his late-to-the-party space boosters were going to do.

I mean, everyone who isn't a moron can see that space tourism is a bust. And it's hard to see there being a market for a second Starlink - not that the first one is a good idea. So what's supposed to be the market for Bezos's space rocket?
