Wow. Respect.

"65 years after the assassination of Congo's 1st PM, a Belgian diplomat will face trial"

"More than six decades after Congo's beloved first prime minister Patrice Lumumba was abducted and murdered by Belgium-backed secessionists, a former Belgian diplomat will stand trial for war crimes in connection to the assassination."

I hope the current US gov cosplayers are paying attention. Justice will be waiting.

This man is 93.

It's worth discussing whether letting a capital criminal live out his life in complete freedom to 93 before anybody moves on the case is justice. And if not, who else needs to be in prison for the associated crimes.

Conversations we have to have, if we ever want this crap to stop.

@RustyRing He was a junior diplomat and the only person left to try. So he will be facing the burden of everything his superiors did.

It would be cool to see more government officials responsible for overthrowing other governments being held responsible. A lot of Americans would be looking at answering for Chile, Nicaragua, and so on.

Gotta start somewhere.

@CStamp

Indeed. As long as we start. That's all I ask, but been a long time waiting.

@RustyRing Celebrate the little wins.

Gottes Mühlen mahlen langsam, mahlen aber trefflich klein,
ob aus Langmut er sich säumet, bringt mit Schärf 'er alles ein.

The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind admirably small.
Though he delays through patience, he brings everything to pass with sharpness.

@jameshowell Belgium left Congo in such a mess. I saw the Bourdain Congo episode and it’s stuck with me.
