I'm being asked to believe that online payment isn't a thing in The Netherlands.

@jasongorman Last time I tried to pay with a credit card in Albert Heijn, the biggest supermarket chain there, they looked at my Visa and said “EuroPay or cash”.

So I can believe it.

@samir How do they buy things online?
@samir I'm processing payments with Stripe.
@samir I've offered to invoice them for payment by bank transfer. But for £99...

@jasongorman No idea. Here in Switzerland we have some custom QR code-based stuff for invoicing, which obviously doesn't help anyone outside the country. I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar.

You might have to go down the invoice route, but I am also surprised they can't figure it out, given that they probably also pay for Google Suite or Microsoft 365 or some such nonsense by credit card.

How to accept payments in the Netherlands | Stripe

A guide to accepting payments in the Netherlands – from the various payment options to improving the customer payment experience.

@jasongorman @samir this has info about what people actually use there
@jasongorman @samir if you send a Stripe Payment Link, would that let them choose a suitable method?
@sanityinc @samir Stripe accept most forms of payment in most countries
@jasongorman @samir Stripe should offer them to pay with a thing called iDeal/Wero. If they don’t, chances are pretty high that your customer doesn’t have a credit card as we pay primarily with debit cards (e.g. in shops), hence their inability to pay online.
@simeon @samir It also works with debit cards.
@simeon @samir Stripe accepts debit cards

@jasongorman @samir there's something called iDEAL, it works with all Dutch banks. I regularly buy things online.

If that's not there, I have a credit card which works for online payment.

Also my new bank card says "Visa Debit", but I am not sure I can do anything special with that at this point. The previous card was "Maestro".

@jasongorman @samir same as you, no worries. Either by CC, DC, Paypal, Wero (iDeal) or something else 🤷‍♂️
