@DavidM581 @SydneyJim @BackyardNudie Would be interesting to know how they did that. I wonder if the first steps are still to grow the membership, raise funds for causes that are important to us, and then exert the political or legal pressure when we have the strength of numbers?

Sadly talk is cheap. ‘I believe, I believe’ means shit! Unity, money, power and influence appear to be what the Aussie Naturist community seem to lack?

A practical path forward isn’t to abandon the ANF or blindly support it, but to use it as a base while building something more active around it. Think of it as a two-layer approach. The ANF remains the formal national body, while a more visible, community-driven network focuses on outreach, education, & public presence. That avoids fragmentation while still creating momentum. On the internal side, a simple but effective solution would be a transparent, community-supported framework for involvement. Clear expectations for representatives, basic vetting, & regular communication back to the community can rebuild trust without needing a complete structural overhaul. Normalise through presence. Everyday, #respectful visibility matters more than grand statements. Beaches, walks, & social gatherings that are clearly non-sexual & well-conducted quietly reshape assumptions over time. If enough people see these events, it will make an impact. (5/10)

Control the narrative. #SocialMedia should consistently show #naturism as ordinary, #respectful, & grounded in #wellbeing, #nature, #community. Tell human stories. People relate to people, not movements. Sharing why individuals practise #naturism, focusing on #freedom, comfort, & #acceptance, helps others see it as relatable rather than confronting. These are things that I keep trying to reiterate in my posts. (7/10)

Engage, don’t confront. When challenged, calm & reasonable responses are far more effective than defensive or aggressive ones. Public opinion shifts through familiarity & trust, not pressure. Create soft entry points. Open days at clubs, beginner-friendly #NakedHiking or #NudeBeach gatherings, or educational content lowers the barrier for curious people without overwhelming them. (8/10)

In short, the solution isn’t a single big move. It’s coordinated, steady effort: strengthen what exists, build visible community energy around it, & let public perception shift through repeated, positive exposure. I agree will all you have stated. The only flaw I see in all you have said is that the ANF being our National body it needs to be the driving force to bring about change? The needs of the ANF are enormous yet for numerous reasons it fails to attract, retain and grow it’s influence and effectiveness.

But should support & progress be mutually exclusive? Supporting the ANF doesn’t have to mean accepting things as they are without question. It can also mean engaging constructively, encouraging improvement, & helping to build greater effectiveness from within. Without some form of national body, even an imperfect one, it may be difficult to achieve the kind of coordination needed for that united stand we so desire. (2/4)

I think there is still value in maintaining a sense of collective support around the ANF as a unifying body, even while recognising its limitations. As you’ve said, it remains the only national organisation we currently have, & that alone gives it an important role, however imperfectly it may be fulfilling it at present. (2/5)

The idea of a more formal political presence is certainly interesting, though I suspect it would come with its own challenges in terms of scale, resources, & community alignment. Perhaps it’s not necessarily an either-or situation, but something that could develop alongside existing structures if there were enough shared will & clarity of purpose? (4/5)

I feel there is still merit in supporting what exists, while encouraging steady improvement & continuing to demonstrate, through our own #Naturist conduct, social media representation of #Naturism, & the values we want the broader community to understand. @SydneyJim @laughing_kooky @BackyardNudie Generally, the ANF committees past, present and future are very well intended but are grossly overwhelmed by the task at hand! 8 or so, with or without appropriately qualifications, on the ANF committee on a voluntary basis (largely unfunded) can not realistically achieve what our community needs particularly on a National basis. They don’t need to be members of the ANF, but to work alongside it. Their role should be to organise activities, set clear behavioural standards, & keep messaging aligned with respectful non-sexual #Naturism. (1/2)

Small well publicised gatherings are a strong starting point I think. Simple & repeatable on a semi-regular basis: #NudeBeach meetups, #NakedHiking, #SkinnyDipping get-togethers, #Naked picnics in a secluded park, or even #Naked BBQs. They should be well-run, welcoming, & calm. The key is not size, but consistency. A group that meets regularly & behaves respectfully becomes a stable example others can trust & join. (2/2)

Public presence does not mean forcing visibility into unwilling spaces. It means being appropriately visible where it already fits. Established #naturist beaches, private venues, & #Nudist areas. When those spaces are active, friendly, & well-presented, they naturally become points of curiosity & gradual acceptance. (2/2)

Clear language around #respect, boundaries, & non-sexual intent is essential. If we grow this well enough, we can begin lightly coordinating with the ANF rather than working separately. Share what’s working, offer content, & help amplify each other. (1/2)

The difference between success & failure is intention & consistency. We need to keep it #respectful, visible & not hidden behind a paywall or disguised with those dreadful mosaics, & it needs to be consistent. That’s what gradually shifts perception & builds something larger. Any thoughts?

@SydneyJim @laughing_kooky @BackyardNudie Australia is so divided, not only by vast distances but historical and current conflicts, not to mention the confusion caused by those who claim to be ‘naturist’ but actually harbour some form of sexualised agenda. As a result, the general public often get a very tainted view of naturism. (2/2).
