So. Many. Walmart. Delivery. Drones. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

@jerry

Wait, what?

@GhostOnTheHalfShell the Walmart stores around me have aerial drone delivery. And it seems like everyone and their dog is using it here

@jerry
I honestly didnโ€™t think this was a real thing! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

@GhostOnTheHalfShell

@crispius @GhostOnTheHalfShell here one coming to my house when they first started the service a few months ago.

@jerry @crispius

My God it sounds like a fire storm of mosquitoes. There was one particular memorable, super warm night, hiking where all the mosquitoes emerged all at once and they made a noise like that.

I would consider something like that to be noise pollution and would be complaining to the police if somebody else was doing that my neighborhood.

@jerry
Video wonโ€™t load for me, but Iโ€™ll take your word for it. I imagine at some point weโ€™ll be hunting these things (and the food-delivery robots) like our ancestors hunted gazelles on the Savannah.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell

@crispius @jerry

Willie Sutton denied ever saying thatโ€™s where the money is but he said I probably couldโ€™ve said it

Yeah, might wanna rescale that video to be smaller. At 2160x3840, a minute and 30 seconds makes a 290 megabyte file. Not easy to download!

@jerry

Do the Walmart drones run Mode-S/ADS-B ?

@crispius @GhostOnTheHalfShell

@crispius @jerry @GhostOnTheHalfShell I also thought it would never actually roll out. Since you would never be able to sit outside and enjoy quietly the sun anymore.

That's insane they approved those drones over residential area.

@jerry

How much of a payload can these things really carry? I also wonder what the costs are. Taking stuff up into the air is energy intensive no matter how you look at it. Thatโ€™s why birds are built to be light.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell I believe it is around 2.5 pounds

@jerry

It is apparently pretty expensive as well.

I wonder if people are paying the full cost or not

@jerry @GhostOnTheHalfShell

Best to regulate them before the business gets ahead of writing the rules.

Maybe your local regulators or council could write a rule that they should fly along a specific consolidated routes, or at a certain height, to reduce some noise.

@silo_bear @jerry

My vote would be that stand your ground laws would apply. They should be classified as varmits

@jerry Just see them as free clay pigeon practice.

@davep @jerry

You win the Internet today

@jerry if they only had that for the housing mkt then they would have to be underwater drones
@jerry they should play flight of the Valkyries for. You know. Safety purposes
@grumpasaurus @jerry walmart don't surf, if they did it would be on a tidal wave over every downtown #hang fire rollback

@rotopenguin @jerry I watched this gif for far too long waiting for the dog to laughโ€ฆ only to realize itโ€™s the same two damn ducks on loop ๐Ÿ˜‚

You got me. You got me good.

@jerry I do not see this being popular in places with drone warfare

@jerry
Do you live by Barksdale AFB ? ๐Ÿคฃ

I watched Pluribus...and cannot "unsee" this:

@AG100pct I have seen that clip before and it is great. I havenโ€™t seen the show though.

I live in the ruralish outskirts of a suburb of a suburb of Atlanta

'Multiple waves' of unauthorized drones recently spotted over US Air Force base

Lights on the drones suggested the operators may be testing security responses.
