What is your greatest fear about your characters?

That I don't manage, to make them recognizable in the way that I portray them as actual people, with own voices, flaws and strength, but instead create cut out cookie cutter cardboard pieces. Because that's the absolute opposite of my approach to character creation or more so what I want to achieve.

Do you write scenes out of order? If so, how do you decide their arrangement?

I actually do but most times I have something like a rough sketch in my mind of the TL overall and at which point I think tgat they would be appropriate to happen.

That doesn't mean they stay there 100% if the developing stories, quite literally, overwrite them.

When was the last time your MC lied? Why?

I don't think I answer this because my view on this is very different from what is intended here.

So when lied the MC?
Probably the same moment you did.
🟡 This is not a yellow filled circle.
Your brain lied. It's a combination of different colored pixels that your eyes may interpret as yellow. Yellow exists in our non digital world but not on screens.

Every second a brain works it lies to us by obscuring reality.

When have you last seen your nose? If your abled in vision you see it right now, but your brain cuts it out.
Where does a lie start? Leaving out details like our brain does?
The moment we believe to know something?

What lays in front of your door?
You know it?
You don't.
Your brain assumes it knows what's there but until you check you can't be sure.
We don't expirience reality as it is only in the range of our perception.
Their is not a single atom of truth in the universe yet we know what truth is...

How do you define a “strong” character? How do you create one?

Because I'm a bit under pressure today:

"Strong" characters have depth, have believes, opinions and act accordingly or at times contrary with a conflict. They react and interact with the world and characters surrounding them.

"Weak" characters have no reactions to what Happens beyond the situational outcome. They are merely vessels for the story that have no agency beyond being in a scene and being for whatever reason the protagonist.

TLDR: "Strong" Characters choose "weak" characters are chosen.

How do you approach stereotypes while creating characters?

I use them as a basic outline.
Than drive them to Marry Sue/Gery Stu/Jerry Toue levels, throw in Trauma, History, Dreams, reason, agency and struggles and cut them back to normal people level.
Don't forget a tiny note of scars while cooking.

We are so many people that all of us are, from a narrative point of view, repeating character patterns. But even with that repeating patterns no one of us is exactly like the other. Not even twins (triplets etc).
We are all a combination of weak to strong patterns. Two guys called John Horver habe the same name, but are they both cis heterosexual white man? Or bisexual, is there skin tone different, do they have different upbringing, is one maybe lactose intolerant and the other not so much?

Stereotypes exist for a reason, avoiding them all is hard as a fork to chew on so i try to avoid blatantly racist/ableist/sexist ones but otherwise okay with them.

If you need to share an important piece of history/lore, what’s your approach that avoids infodumping?

If it is character related I try to use their dialogue, a dream, a flashback or something similar like this.

In case of in universe events I try to let people talk about it or use something like a celebration/memorial day, cut into tiny bits like spice to seasoning your food.

So people don't get all the history pepper at once, first they taste it, than they learn its name, later how it's "created" and what insanity it's story is will only come later, but always in tiny doses.

For writing this can mean something like my universe has elaborate rules about food safety, so a food stand has a note like "All products are tested safe for Terran consumption & we fulfill all requirements of 23XX to..."

Or: "Yeah I can't wait for Union Founding, this time we booked our vacation on (...) it's not an official ceremony but you have to expirience it."

Antagonist POV: Imagine you achieved your goal. What’s next?

Ayanami: "Dear friend I'm not working towards any goal, and don't need to 'imagine' things. See you really need to understand that sometimes the way is the goal. I'm not interested in produce outcome X by any means necessary, such a rampaging approach blinds you with ambitions for a goal that might be unavailable, my work will and already has altered our present time line of events. I'm just making sure no one is... Left behind, so to say."

Ariæne: "I don't known maybe my memory issues are permanent and their is no way of regaining them all ... So why should I plan ahead for an event that 'my today me' or 'current iteration' will never see. Maybe my next me will have a different opinion on that and maybe write it down. Maybe it can be repaired and I can finally say goodbye, I'm sure 'all me' would like that..."

Give an example of brilliant writing. What's special about?

That is very subjective.
Personally of my own I love the opening: "Today I first shot myself and than my fridge that lying bastard so guess if today is your or my lucky day. Which sadly is all of the text I wrote after making a bad short story about someone shooting his fridge with a shorter opening.

How could someone who knows your MC well console them after the last time you made them suffer?

Kira usually relied a lot on Anika for emotional stability. This has to do with the history both have with each other and how she gets through all of this, without her *Twin sister* will be a main part of the story...
And how to help? We will see too.

Arkham: One has to get through Arkham's incredibly dense defense first.

Ashlei: is not programmed to suffer or to be consolidated.

Tell us about a quirk your SC has.

He used to be the captain of a starship and this still shows.
Captain Quirk of the Insertcost.

Okay that Bs I totally made that up.
There is no captain Quirk I rather would write a Captain named Bicard, Fisko or Maneway.

I have a big bunch of SCs.
For J it's her flirting and cuddling that can be a bit taxing to others especially if she wants to cuddle naked. Since she has no sex drive people might find that aspect confusing and at times complicated. She also cheers you up at almost any occasion if she likes you. And she can be so loud...

Rose often comes across as cold and distant only to explode into a burst of energy about topics she finds interesting.

Talisa often hits right into the "keep this secret hidden" spot.

Dr. Kaiden insists on telling people that he is Korean.
Other people couldn't care less about heritage but he often splurts it out like some USAmericans today. (😬💚)

Is selling your work for money important to you when you write?

Not really, would be awesome if I could make money of it one day but I don't think about that at all while writing.

Also I should have at least something ready to sell otherwise I could call it a Kickstarter and get infamous for selling the promise of a story...

Whait isn't that exactly what I'm doing in answering all the prompts instead of sitting my a$$ down and write on the darn thing...

I clearly have no skills in selling ideas if I post all of it here for free.😂😬😅

Maybe I should call it an art project of a fake story influencing the real world... Geez my self annoyance has reached a new level. You know better skip my rambling. I wanted to go to bed early instead I'm awake at 6:27 am since yesterday...

And today will even be longer thanks to this "decision."🙃

Do you have any kind of ritual to get in the mood to sit down and write?

Not really maybe that's my mistake?

I always want to write but my brain rarely focuses on the want part enough and in the end I procrastinate with something else less important to me but easier accessible to my brain. Cheap endorphins instead of earned ones.
What helps at least a bit is sitting down in my hanging chair swinging gently back and for but the caffeine level has to be right otherwise I fall asleep relatively easily.😅
