#WordWeavers: Who is your most flamboyant character?

As far as clothing, Kahali is pretty flamboyant for a star being. He always has extra embroidery, bright threads, or such on his clothing. As for personality and behavior, Mican (who you meet in The Ruined) is the most flamboyant. He’s quite popular among his people but a terror to humans.

Do you plan your themes, or do they arise naturally as you write?

Themes? A bit of both, I suppose.

At first I always recognized my themes by looking backwards at the finished story. But the more I write the most I'm able to recognize and plan for specific themes.

I don't always choose to. Very often I just start writing and see what happens, watching the themes arise as the story comes together. But there have been a few stories, like The Price of Survival and Planting Life in a Dying City, where I had themes in mind as I started writing.

#WordWeavers Do you plan your themes, or do they arise naturally as you write?

Themes are not planned. Themes are who you are as a person. Ursuala Le Guin explains this eloquently in the intro to The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, just write, and your themes will come out.

#WordWeavers: Do you plan your themes or do they arise naturally while you write?

I don’t plan them, and usually don’t even know what my themes are until I’m about 3/4 of the way done with the first draft. I refine it a bit sometimes in edits, but it usually doesn’t need much. I prefer more subtle themes.

The beauty of nature. The joy of friendship. The warmth of a smile. No matter how crazy the world gets, these truths are eternal.💜

Tell us about your story:
Kat has no control over her traveling. The aliens she has met are split between it being controlled by her subconscious or an all-knowing, divine-like alien. All she knows is that she was normal until she hit her fifties.

#WordWeavers: If your story were an animal, which one? And what would you feed it?

My novella (TITWT) for the anthology: a spider weaving a giant web because of the web of time.

The Ruined: an arctic octopus (do they exist?🤷🏻‍♀️) for their shapeshifting and alien nature.

Werewolves, Chocolate, & Pigeons: a panda, for their coziness and sense of humor.

#WordWeavers:MC POV: Do you ride horseback or your world’s equivalent?

(From my WIP, TITWT)
Kat: “When I was a human kid, I loved doing everything with horses, even cleaning stalls. But now,“ she grins mischievously, “I’d rather master taking that form and gallop along a beach with them.”
