The resistance against age verification is growing.

There's now a dedicated Linux distro that stands against it. 😼🗿

Ageless Linux Emerges to Protest OS-Level Age Verification Laws

And thankfully, it's more than just a Linux distro without age verification.

It's FOSS
@itsfoss why is it that big of a deal tho? Just set your age to be idk maybe 25 y.o. and move on with your life.
@_xchgd @itsfoss becouse this is a framework for future os ID checks after everyone has implemented this they tighten the law. And also the law itself is so vague that alot of people dont even know how you can follow it.
@joonq @itsfoss wouldnt the best idea just be for distros to register an object/service on the session bus? As i see it it is the best we can do right now.

@joonq @_xchgd @itsfoss Yeah the current wording of the law in Colorado for example is *VERY* bad, as it indicates that the distro needs to enable age (identity) verification using a data or biometric profile as set, dynamically, by a "competent agency".

Such a federal agency could, for example, physically require upload of driver's license to validate age in the system.

@_xchgd @itsfoss Ever heard of "slippery slope"?

@itsfoss make menuconfig

[ ] Include age verification API

sudo make install && sudo make modules_install

@itsfoss
"The resistance against age verification is growing."

The resistance against the oligarchy/authoritarian party is growing.
Should have never needed to grow since the tea party.

@itsfoss age verification in os is just stupid

@itsfoss this doesnt actually do that

because it provides a level of compliance greater than zero by putting in a stub for an age compliance call to be made

this does the opposite of the claimed intent

who the fuck is astroturfing for meta with this shit

@itsfoss how about NOT A SUPPORTED API whatsoever?

code that doesnt exist cant be run or filled in with something else

@itsfoss the stupidification is real. the actual answer is DELETE IT. Don't support even faking compliance.

How often does "fake" compliance turn into real compliance, assholes?

I am being rude because you are promoting fascism.

@itsfoss It is so sad that this needs to be a thing. I wonder how age verification will be implemented. Will it be as simple as just uninstalling a package or not installing it if you are using arch.

@itsfoss This isn't a distro so much as just a script that changes the ID of the distro. Their GitHub link gives a 404 error.

Literally nothing to see here.

@distrowatch @itsfoss It's a project to legally challenge a policy that was written by big tech lobbyists to marginalize alternatives to their products. One might disagree with their strategy, but I don't see why they would waste their time writing a custom DE for their legal argument.
@random_regret @itsfoss My point was they don't have a distro, they don't have an operating them. They are not actually protesting because their script in no way fits the definition of an OS. It is a completely empty gesture. And their repository for the script is not even online, the link gives a file not found error.
@distrowatch @itsfoss Listen either read whats on their website or don't. These guys have started a project to catch the lawsuit before it hits a real distro, who might not be legally prepared for it. If it works out as a legal tactic or not will be shown in court. But they are quite literally trying to take one for the team, so cut them some slack ffs
@random_regret @itsfoss No they aren't trying to "take one for the team". That's my issue. No one is going to take them to court because what they are doing has nothing to do with the law they claim to be against. They don't product anything, they aren't a vendor for anything, they don't meet any of the requirements for an operating system. No one is going to sue them. The "project" accomplishes nothing.
@distrowatch @itsfoss
Ok this is getting repetitive now.
Please just take a deep breath. It's just some people on the internet who are trying to fight a stupid law. It might work, it might not, but they're making an effort.
Maybe have a walk or a cigarette or something. And then have a look at their website ( https://agelesslinux.org/ ). And actually read the thing. In good faith. They are explaining quite clearly what they're doing.
Ageless Linux — Software for Humans of Indeterminate Age

@itsfoss Don't see how the Commodore 64 will ever have it + it's in the #eurotrash camp!
@itsfoss ageless linux is just normal debian right now, dont use it yet
@itsfoss and I as maintainer of @OS1337 declare my commitment to NEVER COMPLY with such cyberfascist demands!
