Every pro-renewables politician should be working at 100% capacity to flip the "the greens are making your life more expensive" narrative into "the fossil fuel lobbyists are making your life more expensive" right now, but I fear our side is too nice to effectively exploit a situation like this
@Techaltar Not just too nice, but I'm also annoyed by how the left/greens have become the party of "you can't do that", instead of trying to communicate a more idealistic and optimistic end goal that they want to achieve.

@ainmosni @Techaltar

This is a total cliche, and fundamentally untrue.

Of course, when Greens are organised enough to win a by-election in a FPTP contest, they are denounced by the Right for being "savage" and "a menace", and chided by liberals for not fulfilling their stereotype of being fluffy tree-huggers.

In any case,I think we have all seen what the Right's notion of freedom looks like.

@iaruffell Note that my comment was very much about the current state of German politics, which does not have by-elections, or FPTP systems. And that the greens and the left here definitely could communicate their desired end result better, while the right here lies hard about their "vision", and too many people are eating it up.

@ainmosni
Fair enough, but it is often wheeled out as a stock comment here too, so forgive my knee-jerk response.

One problem we have here, which may well differ, is a media landscape which until recently was disinterested and still hostile. This has historically made it difficult for the positive Green position to cut through. That has started to change here.

@ainmosni @iaruffell anglos whenever they see us trying to discuss EUropean politics in English:

@Veza85UE @ainmosni

Ow, it hurts. I freely confess that I did not check anyone's profile and timeline to clarify the jurisdiction.

Still, we are all European Green Party members, if that helps.

@iaruffell @ainmosni @Techaltar - You hit the Bulls - Eye on this 100%.
@ainmosni @Techaltar You can't build housing! You can't select your clean energy mix based on whatever tf WORKS in your country! You can't produce weapons, Putin will totally listen to the UN's resolutions and ✨diplomacy✨ *insert peace-peace-love-love Eurovision song*.
@ainmosni @Techaltar
Power to the people!
@martincigan @ainmosni @Techaltar I think tf not. I've read Terry Pratchett, I have this tattooed on my synapses from an early age and wish more parties on our side read him too.
@Techaltar What people should understand is that when you burn oil/gas/coal to produce energy you destroyed those materials and you need to import a new quantity again, destroy it, and so on. While when you install a solar panel/wind-hydro-sea turbine it will generate energy until it breaks, no transport needed.

@Techaltar

They need to be repeating this ⤵️ mantra as infininitum as well!!!

@Techaltar

IN EU the ex worst defense minister of all time for Germany Von der Leyen is hard selling the Atomic Power is Renewable shit.

French pro atom Lobbyists have been placed in the Commission, that according to a French group Nuclear Alliance.

LOOK AT THE HISTORY OF NUCLEAR SAFETY,
A pack of lies and dirty destruction.

Nuclear waste problems are Ignored.

WE ARE RULED BY LOBBYISTS AND DONKEYS.

Subsidise solar Wind and Battery Storage

@Kerplunk
While I consider nuclear preferable over coal, that is one hell of a low bar.
With nuclear you'll just be dependent on imported uranium, and pretty much all of that stuff is coming from either Russia or unstable areas that will no doubt get more unstable if their uranium gets more important.

Nuclear will only solve the pollution problems and literally nothing else.
@Techaltar

@kainisenni @Techaltar

Nuclear will only solve the pollution problems and literally nothing else.

So you have a way to remove all nuclear pollution from the planet or are another lying deceptive lobbyist trying to push poison power.

I think the Latter

Nuclear waste needs to be safely stored for longer than life has existed on this planet.

Most of it is stored in rotting containers and extremely dangerous.

@Kerplunk
My post was a "yes, and". Not everyone on the internet is your opponent.

Agreeing 90% with someone and therefore coming to the same conclusion but disagreeing on the last 10% does not make you enemies.
@Techaltar

@Kerplunk @kainisenni @Techaltar cool to see you dont know shit about the subject. And don't bother replying, can't hear you over the sound of our 40g of co2 instead of german 500...

The day you understand being antinuke is playing for the fossile. Fuel company, you will have learn something.

@Techaltar I fear a lot of the pro-renewables side is afraid that if they tell the truth they won't be allowed to speak in public anymore. I mean, their opinions won't be reported in the media anymore, so the vast majority of the people won't hear about it.
@bovaz @Techaltar Massive conflicts of interest plague the entire global media.
A few powerful people and corporations hold the entire world hostage.
It's truly painful.
@Techaltar Danke! There are clearly advantages to being the parties (plural, in the progressive pro 🇪🇺 spectrum, not all EU countries have a big Green party) of educated urbanites [laudatory], but this lack of ruthlessness and life experience at getting down in the mud and punching bullies in the mouth is a huge disadvantage that frustrates me endlessly.
It's even worse when they want to coddle fash voters and poorwash their sociopathy, but that's another discussion.
@Techaltar "too nice" is a generous interpretation. too afraid of the fossil fuel lobby and their attack media is closer
@Techaltar Another problem is funding. The pro-gas side has a LOT of money at their disposal to steer against renewables. The pro-renewables folk are not working with the same budget.
@Techaltar Related to this: I'm missing a message from pro-renewables saying just two words "cheap energy". That can sum up a whole chunk of policy proposals and make them very understandable both for consumers and businesses. CHEAP ENERGY (which today, equals renewable energy).

@Techaltar In Massachusetts right now, people are bitching about the price of electricity and blaming renewables and our state energy efficient programs.

Meanwhile in reality, electricity costs are sky high because natural gas prices are spiking, and MA electricity is extremely dependent on natural gas. Every megawatt of renewable electricity on the grid is lowering everyone's costs.

@Techaltar renewables are a defense strategy.

@Techaltar I’m definitely pro renewables but I also realise the reality that virutally all of the infrastructure that enables our lives uses oil to work.

Whether that’s cars, buses, trams, trains, power stations, elevators, escalators, bicyles, air conditioning, sliding doors, factories, construction, shipping etc

All these things need oil, either to grease them or to power them. So we still need oil but the focus should be to find sustainable alternatives and move away eventually, from oil.

@Techaltar Oil is only half of the picture though. Gas is also heavily relied upon by billions of people for cooking and heating. There are also gas powered vehicles (liquid petroleum gas).

It’s not an easy or quick change. It will take decades. If not a century, to fully move away from fossil fuels

@Techaltar thank the Americans for veering Germany off course its Hydrogen innovation projects...
@Techaltar Most leftists have been taught that exploitation in any circumstances is evil. We really gotta add an exception to meeting like with like. We gotta kick it up a notch and make fun of them like theres no tomorrow
@Techaltar
not really sure - I do not trust Sanchez that much - but at 23:58 he speaks of the energy costs Spain is economizing due to renewables; just 2 minutes ....
is that true ?

@solarkater @Techaltar It is, but RIP to your progressives, El Perro is built different. We need more with his ruthlessness. This isn't something you can train at seminars though.

@Techaltar oh I dunno, I just had a conversation with the guy at the counter in the petrol station as I was paying which went along the lines of "Find me an American to kill".... pause... <nervous laughter> "Shite innit?"
@Techaltar I also think we should reintroduce the term “alternative energy”, only now it means fossil fuels.
@Techaltar If there's ever a situation that deserves to be exploited it's this one. Well, and the Epstein case. So if there are *two* situations that deserve to be exploited.
@Veza85UE sigh...
@Techaltar Imagine thinking for a second that Manfred WEBER would ever honour this or any deal with them. If you want to use 2035 as leverage on the EPP (as dumb as it is to cling to internal combustion), start with demanding they defenestrate Weber as a *starting point*.
@Veza85UE I don't know enough about EU politics to answer intelligently here 😅

@Techaltar The origin story of his failure to become EU Commission President. He's now a bitter, resentful husk who will stop at nothing to claw back some semblance of relevance. The EP Greens and German Greens in particular do know all this though, which makes their dumbo behaviour here even more frustrating.
