Pardon the everything app screenshot but the self-immolation of Andreessen is a sight to behold

He got so upset that people call him out for his “I don’t have feelings” tweet that he is storm-posting about how he is not bothered and definitely has no feelings or any inner self

Truly one of the most spectacularly stupid fartwaffles of the tech industry

@thomasfuchs I hesitate to dismiss ideas just because contemptible people have discovered them. So I looked up the book just to get a sense of what it might actually be saying, and, the author is a "professor of behavioral science at the Warwick Business School and cofounder of Decision Technology Ltd"

hahahahahahaha

@thomasfuchs now I'm just googling the title in quotes plus"debunked"
@glyph @thomasfuchs “Business school behavioral science professor” needs to become one of those phrases like “military intelligence” and “jumbo shrimp”
@jalefkowit @thomasfuchs for the record I did double check by skimming a few reviews just to make sure this wasn’t the world’s most surprising business school dork, and got Terrible Psych Bingo within seconds; reasoning by analogy and very tenuous evidence to physical brain structures, weird overreliance on pop-cultural references, seemingly dismissing the history of positive psychology, grand sweeping theory-of-everything claims, etc etc
@jalefkowit @thomasfuchs not exactly a rigorous scientific review or anything but I’ve seen enough, I would bet you a nice car that the replication crisis eats the evidence for this like piranhas skeletonizing a cow
@thomasfuchs to be fair, he’s not the only “most spectacularly stupid fartwaffles of the tech industry” – I’ve already lost count this week alone!
@thomasfuchs @rberger the fartwafffles have lived in the echo chamber for so long they can’t recognize the dysfunction
@thomasfuchs in the case of that one particular extremely hollow man, I am prepared to entertain the possibility.

@thomasfuchs

Who didn't wear it better?

Andreessen or Egghead?

@thomasfuchs He's totally definitely read that for sure and also totes understood it for really
@thomasfuchs wait, so....*who* is chasing an imaginary concept?
@gwync @thomasfuchs
And who does he think is reading his tweets, and why, if he's asserting they are no more the product of a sentient mind than if an LLM shat them out?
@thomasfuchs Yeah also thoughts don't exist because they're impulses and molecules
@thomasfuchs I guess if they're triggered by empathy they'd be triggered by self awareness too
@thomasfuchs Andreesen is literally as dumb as a stump. Back in the 90s, Netscape had to hire Jim Barksdale to change Andreesen’s diaper and keep him from sticking scissors into electrical outlets.
@thomasfuchs he really is whole new kind of sociopath. i give him that much.
@thomasfuchs Y'know, if Andreessen had posted the cover of The Origins of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind, I could actually have respected that. But kids these days have no respect for the classics of Weird Crankdom. Does this airport MBA nonsense have even one chapter psychologizing the Iliad? A single brain diagram? I doubt it!

@thomasfuchs The Management/Investor class build systems that allow them to control people without having to engage with them, then think enlightenment has struck them when they have some thought like 'everyone else is an NPC'.

Then they got shocked when all of the people outside their bubble don't fall at their feet when they speak their truth (and in the language of the plebs too - 15 year old clickbait memespeak!). How dare we, really.

@BoysenberryCider @thomasfuchs Makes me wonder whether he's also read "It's On You: How the Rich and Powerful Have Convinced Us that We're to Blame for Society's Deepest Problems" by the same author, reading it as a set of instructions, maybe.
@thomasfuchs it’s amazing how many snowflakes are RWNJs who describe their opponents that way.
@thomasfuchs The smartest guy in the world, I guess. 🙄
@thomasfuchs I mean I’m down with the self being an illusion but I think the implications are pretty different from what he thinks they are
@thomasfuchs Right, but also dead wrong. There is no "inner self," but there _are_ discriminated operants where one's own body and behavior are what is discriminated. The _self_ is a particular repertoire of discriminated operants.
