(explanation: During the Yuan dynasty, China was ruled by Mongols. Like many contemporaries, Zheng Sixiao refused to work for them, and would even sit facing South, turning his back to the Mongol capital Dadu in the North.
His famous painting of an orchid appears to float. When asked why it had no roots, he said 'don't you know these barbarians have taken even the soil from us?')
