Are people still defending Biden or is his abject failure to prosecute Trump actually universally recognized now, especially as the Epstein files become public, something he failed to do or prosecute the relevant people for their contents?

(Please don’t respond saying the files were “sealed” because as we’re all aware of now sealed files can become unsealed with sufficient effort that didn’t happen, hence the problem)

I’ve been saying this from the beginning, but I was told to shut up and get in line and vote Biden, which I did. And he fucked us. And we need to talk about it so we don’t make the same mistakes again.

If there’s one takeaway about this entire situation, it’s that we need to stop electing old men who would hold the country hostage with their egos as they slowly lose their minds to be President of the United States

@bascule great leaders are not raising to the top and that's the design of the system that's broken. I would never (voluntarily) vote Hillary "It's my Turn!" Terf Clinton either or corporate Kamala "AI will solve problems!" Harris. They need someone who inspires people and that's systematic how these leaders get groomed to "It's my turn!" be entitled with their pedigree family trees & paid and provided for higher ivy education. Who ever raises to top they need to be among the people and not the corporate overlords who shill AI for all the problems. FDR only raised to the top because he was person of pedigree and even then social security act lacked universal healthcare etc. Abolish capitalism.

@pinkforest @bascule

Joe Biden and Barack Obama were two of the greatest presidents in American history. You wouldn't vote for either Kamala or Hillary seems a bit crazy in general, but in hindsight, it seems like your really screwed up and many people have to suffer as a result of your failures.

@HakeemG @pinkforest @bascule

This reads like satire or legit trolling.

"Joe Biden and Barack Obama were two of the greatest presidents in American history"? Come on. Nobody believes that.

The Affordable Care Act, ostensibly Obama's big win was literally written by insurance companies. We could have become a real first world country with universal health care, but we got this half-assed, still very privately controlled and profitable, toss off instead.

Obama spinelessly backed off from forcing his appointment of a Supreme Court Justice which turbo charged both Trump administrations by letting him stack bootlickers.

Obama reauthorized the Patriot Act, refused to close Guantanamo Bay, and sent drone strikes against Americans.

And Biden? His only legacy is genocide in Palestine and failing to hold Trump accountable for a fucking insurrection against the United States government.

Did they formalize protections for transgender people? Did they enshrine the tenets of Roe v. Wade or Obergefell v. Hodges into law? Did they try to rein in corporate lobbying and Super PACs? Did they try to curb government insider trading making Senators into millionaires? Did they reach out to progressives? Did they build any platform other than "at least we aren't those guys"?

I voted blue no matter who every time and yet, here we are.

Unless you have solutions or plans or answers or anything helpful to add, maybe you could just stop busting into talks by aggrieved people venting their completely justified anger and frustration just to air your rosy reinterpretation of events. Those events, I will remind you, led us right here.

No President in my half century of living has truly given a damn about "the People", demonstrably.

@jrdepriest @pinkforest @bascule

Really name two greater presidents? I could have sworn Obama got healthcare coverage for twenty million of the nation's poorest people, and you're claiming he didn't help anyone. I'm the troll? Really?

@bascule

Here's me telling people to shut up and learn how our government works. For the record, voting for the Democrats and then spending four years on social media developing resentment and apathy towards them, probably favors the fascists, not democracy.

@HakeemG the constituents of the Democratic Party need to hold a retrospective on the failures of Joe Biden because the party itself failed to do so.

If we don’t recognize the mistakes Biden made, we’re doomed to repeat them.

And to be clear, the consequences of those mistakes are directly responsible for Trump regaining power.

@HakeemG I will say the party’s own assessment of Trump’s victory did nail the culprits in the correct order:

1. party leadership
2. Biden himself
3. Harris

(I am particularly sympathetic to Harris as if Biden hadn’t insisted her platform had to be identical to his, I think she could have won)

@bascule

Biden didn't control the Department of Justice, it operates independently from the White House. That separation exists specifically so that presidents cannot use federal law enforcement as a political weapon. That's why we're a democracy and not a tinpot dictatorship.

Criticizing Biden for not prosecuting Trump is essentially asking why he didn't do the exact thing that would have made the prosecution illegitimate.

@bascule

The framing also rests on a false binary, as if Trump's only two possible outcomes were prison or the presidency. That's absurd.

A prosecution doesn't automatically lead to the White House if it fails, and the absence of a conviction doesn't hand someone the keys to the Oval Office.

@bascule

Trump ran for president because he chose to run for president. He won because enough voters in enough states picked him.

The legal system and the electoral system are two separate things. Treating them as a single pipeline where one failure inevitably produces the other outcome is just not how any of this works.

Bernie has never been prosecuted and also has never been President, funny how that works.

@bascule

The claim that Merrick Garland slow walked the prosecution falls apart when you consider what he was actually dealing with.

Prosecuting a former president is not something you rush. It had never been done before in American history. The legal, political, and constitutional questions involved were unprecedented.

@HakeemG slow walking the prosecution of an insurrectionist was the problem

@HakeemG the US experienced an insurrection and there were no consequences, then the insurrectionist became President, again.

Yes, Merrick Garland was directly responsible, but Biden appointed him and was his supervisor. Nothing happened on the insurrection or the Epstein files.

In the nomenclature of Harry S. Truman, the buck stops with Biden. The failure is on him.

@bascule

There were no consequences? I could have sworn 1500 people were prosecuted? I could have sworn Trump was indicted in 4 separate cases across federal and state jurisdictions.

You know who let Trump off the hook, the American people, when they re-elected the stupidest, dumbest, most corrupt politician in modern history. You can't blame that on Biden or Garland.

@HakeemG Trump pardoned those people and they’re free now, a direct consequence of him getting re-elected.

I don’t blame the American people in general. I blame the Trump voters, but also I blame Democrats’ leadership.

I voted for Harris, but I empathize with the people who sat out. I think if Harris could actually run on her own principles and be critical of Biden, she could have won.

Biden shut her down over and over and over again every time she attempted to do so.

Kamala Harris' Gaza speech watered down by administration officials before delivery

Before Vice President Kamala Harris delivered pointed remarks about a six-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas as part of a deal to release hostages, officials at the National Security Council toned down parts of her speech, three current U.S. officials and one former U.S. official familiar with the speech told NBC News.

@bascule

If your theory of democracy is that the justice system should have removed your political opponent from contention so voters never got the chance to choose him, you don't actually believe in democracy. You believe in outcomes.

You wanted Trump gone and you don't particularly care how it happened, and when it didn't happen, you needed someone to blame who wasn't the voters themselves.

@HakeemG I was making a complicated point about Kamala Harris’s relationship with Biden, but given this non-contextual reply and other similar replies you seem to be some kind of template-based spam bot?

@bascule

I was responding to your initial post.

@bascule

Democrats have never been allies of the People.

Biden, like Trump, like Obama, like Bush, like Clinton, etc etc... They're all in the billionaire power broker group. They defend THEIR own, always.

Sure, the color changes from red to blue and back. But what changes for the Public? Not a damned thing. They always defend their own, and they're all friends.
