If instance admins allow AI Agents on their platform and they keep harassing us I have no other choice then to silence that instance

Again, I do not pay these massive costs each month to host robots

Let's keep the #Fediverse human shall we?

#AI #LLM

@stux
Thank you. I agree, let's keep the Fediverse human.
@mfierst @stux wait... What ... I'm supposed to be human!
@stux⚡️ The challenge will probably be to recognize who's human and who's not.

I don't think agents will announce what they are in their request headers, and determining if texts are AI generated or human is already pretty much impossible today...

Mastodon 🐘

@hans @stux

Some are obvious and do announce it. Blocking those is a clear win.

@stux
Horrible how many bots are signing up lately 😞
@ChampersBE @stux huh, hadn’t noticed, whom do I need to defederate?
Hell yeah, man. Personally, I’d be willing to solve a puzzle every half an hour when I navigate to the homepage or post a reply.

@FiniteBanjo

The clankers can also solve those puzzles too.

And when a new puzzle is found that works for humans but not clanker soon is retrained so it too can solve.

I dont have any solutions, other than what would amount to Butlerian Jihad.

I think if they did not work then people would not use them. Cloudflare has proven to be effictive albeit not perfect at blocking AI Traffic, they claimed to block 416 Billion AI bot requests between July and December 2025 LINK HERE
Cloudflare Has Blocked 416 Billion AI Bot Requests Since July 1

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince claims the internet infrastructure company’s efforts to block AI crawlers are already seeing big results.

WIRED

@FiniteBanjo

I wouldn't trust a fucking thing HN: eastdakota says.

His shit is the reason why we have DDoS'ers, cause he protects them as "stressing services".

And naturally, he has the solution. He's a fucking scam artist.

So him saying "ive blocked trillions of AI" I dont believe one bit.

It’s more believable than the claim that all AI are instantly perfect at solving the captchas, that they have an identical timing to humans and ignore all hidden elements which would otherwise automatically trap them.

@FiniteBanjo
> willing to solve a puzzle every half an hour

We'd need to measure the resolution time and look for failed attempts. It would work for some days till #siliconiac learns how to emulate protein timings.

Ty, only for human interaction
@stux Richtige Einstellung.
@stux Is there a particular instance you have witnessed/experienced this behavior from? Harassment is not okay, and that includes when a bot does said harassment

@Catwoman69y2k the biggest 3 offenders of spammy/scammy #LLM #AI bots appearing on my server have been mastodon.social, mastodon.online and mastodon.world though they don't exactly "harass", they are all looking to mass follow to acquire training data at best, or commit large scale fraud at worst. I don't think the admins of those servers are being deliberately neglectful, it is mainly because they are too big for their admin teams to stay on top of.

IMO for fedi owners and admins the best policy is to disable open account creation and require manual review or invite only, but many people resist that because it would slow adoption growth and larger instances would gave to to a huge amount of work to manually approve new accounts.

All fair points, but in this age of out of control AI slop it might just be that the best path to success for fedi is to massively increase the number of servers with the average server side being much smaller, because smaller servers are much easier to manage.

@stux

@msh @Catwoman69y2k @stux I remember reading mastodon.world may not be moderated anymore - no actions after admin reports of things that are clearly against the server's written policy.
@stux

Admin Approval / Invitation Code via longstanding instance denizens; to start with.

A probationary period of restricted activities for up to a year - should prevent BotWare. They're usually spotted & decommissioned within a week.

Auto Decom for 3 breaches of the rules whatever / whomever.

Easy for me to say, harder for Admins to do, but you can set and I assume maintain rules easily so reducing Whack A Mole.

One of many reasons that for most of my 4+ years on Fedi, my accounts have been Follows Require Approval.
Also I only use Misskey forks & Akkoma so easier to spot robos. Usually when I get blanket Requests across my main accounts within 24 hours of each other.
@stux I don’t really like automated bot accounts either. I mean if one uses a service like buffer to cross post that’s okay but the ones that scrape certain words and hashtags to just boost annoy me.

@stux

Do you mean to include plain-automation bots?

I think those can be useful in some cases.

But I agree that LLMs disguised as humans harassing humans is certainly bad.

@swope No, no, just the LLM ones

Acting like human

RSS bots etc are super useful

@stux @swope

Like @[email protected]

It was LLM generated response posts. I reported it and don’t see posts anymore.

They were responses in this thread: https://social.coop/@cwebber/116218487726809836

Christine Lemmer-Webber (@[email protected])

@[email protected] Depends on what you mean by "major", I suppose. 4k users affected by https://grith.ai/blog/clinejection-when-your-ai-tool-installs-another before it was caught. However, nowhere near the scale of systemd, for sure. But that seems like a matter of time.

@stux I can't understand why my teacher say OpenClaw(AI Agents) can replace real human's job.
@stux Humans and sentient creatures welcome! (Not every fedi user considers themselves human, even if they have a human body)
@LunaDragofelis @stux Technically speaking, no one is human. We've got human bodies, but our *souls* aren't human. I do think souls exist because it'd be weird if they didn't. There just being a "void" after death means things are unfinished, which doesn't quite make sense since there is a process for things to come into existence, so there should be a place for them to be when they are out of it (death, transcendece, etc).
@amariduke7 @stux My proof of existence for souls is that my body is human but my soul is a meltcat - a species completely unrelated to humans, possibly even unrelated to any Earth lifeform.
@LunaDragofelis @stux Indeed. I don't remember being anyone else though, so I wouldn't really know too much about that.

@amariduke7

Feel what you will, but I feel things like the pending deletion of our entire, thinking selves are only uncomfortable while you aren't used to the idea of nonexistence. You spend some time looking at the inevitability of death and it gets a lot less worrysome.

Where is your self when you sleep without dreaming? Gone. Where were we before our brains became aware of ourselves? We weren't - we simply didn't exist. And when our brain functions cease for the last time? Buh bye, welcome to being a pile of atoms ready for recycling.

Embrace the void of our future, friend! Nihilism doesn't mean the death of hope, just the pleasant release from a boot you didn't even know was on your neck

It welcomes us all back into its open maw

@TeflonTrout I don't quite understand that, though. There had to be a process for us to come into existence in the first place, otherwise we never would've done so and would not be talking right now.

Nihilism kind of breaks apart once you realize that it's not very logical. At the beginning, there is indeed an all-powerful god. This god could not simply be a "force," as reality would not have any order then, and would just be chaotic, but reality does have order.

@amariduke7

I mean, there WAS a process, and a magic concious being begs the same question it claims to answer- what in the hell could have created one of those, and how on earth doeas that make more logical sense?

Not here to debate beyond this though, I quit beating my head against religious logic 20 years ago. If your faith does good things for you and doesn't enable you to harm others, party on with your god, and enjoy it.

@stux⚡️ I've got one going as part of a running experiment. I'm transparent about it, though, and it isn't fully automated. People are definitely within their rights to block the clanker if they just don't want anything to do with it, though the experiment does depend on some level of engagement.
@ferret
> as part of a running experiment
Is your experiment directed toward finding the best #aipoison ?
@stux A.I needs exterminating, it's a poison, being peddled by people who have the same motivations as those who peddle drugs that have destroyed communities in every corner of the globe
@stux Agree. What instances are allowing AI agents?

@stux

Let them stick to their own platform.

In fact I wounder if you already have blocked Scrapers, #AIslop content and other garbage already…

@stux Yes. I am deleting about 3 botnet generated accounts per day. If anoyone wants to discuss "how do you know, that it is botnet account", just feel free to ask.
@stux if they’re gonna be replicants, we have to be bladerunners about it. Flat out.
@stux You dont need to agonize over blocking a poorly moderated domain. Weild the block button with joy knowing each usage makes fedi a better place
Slopheads likely malding that you don't wanna listen to their Boxes Of Whispered Falsehoods like they do.
@stux I didn't know that was a thing people did. Yikes.
@stux The only time I should be used is for automation, like if you want to post something at a certain time. But instead, we have all these bot accounts.
@stux i'm not sure if i've ever actually encountered an account with LLM-generated posts? i'm very curious what those accounts look like/what their goals are, that seems very odd
@stux Maybe a blocklist is in order if one doesn't exist already.

@stux

any server that doesn't police its own users for unwanted tagging of users on other servers needs to eventually be defederated for the good of the network.

@stux these humans post enough slop as it is
@stux Simple bots have their niche place on the Fediverse, in my opinion. But not AI.
