If there was any lesson we failed to learn from cartoons growing up, it came from Scooby Doo, where they tried to warn us that the villain is always a rich old white guy who wants to illegally and unethically acquire more money than he needs.

@backupbear it feels strangely prescient

or maybe they just knew what was up before the rest of the comfortable middle class white children

@backupbear The next step is realizing that when the cops come and take the rich old white guy away, its to let him go so he can try again.

@Jesticulated @backupbear

Justice System: Now, mean old Mister Jones, what have we told you about murdering children?

Mr. Jones: Not to do it

JS: What did you do:

MJ: I let the crocodiles in the moat eat them.

JS: Silly Mr. Jones, what ever will we do with you *mugs to camera* *cymbal sting* cue happy music as they all skip out of the court room while Mr Jones hands out Benjis to everyone.

@backupbear It was my least favourite show, but it probably had the best values.
@rotopenguin @backupbear I do remember the cartoon style, but due to a stroke, my other memories are no longer viable, so no name 😒

@connynasch @rotopenguin @backupbear The original is quite introspective and wholesome.

@noquierouser @rotopenguin @backupbear Oh wow, thank you for the link. I loved Scooby Doo 😁
Have an excellent evening!
@rotopenguin Going to just take this unattributed image without alt-text and add that myself and repost. @backupbear

@backupbear all of them did, in those times, when free speech was respected.

Heck, I used to respect journalists, and usually they did good, solid work exposing the scams of the rich

@backupbear

But maga people’s favorite argument is: “But he is a billionaire. He is not in politics for the money”

🤦🏻‍♂️

Bless their simpleton heart!

@JackMexa4 @backupbear
What people don't understand about billionaires is that they crave money like addicts crave heroin. For them, there is no such thing as "enough money" -- because if there were, they would have been content to stop at "millionaire".

#greed #billionaires

@kerravonsen @JackMexa4 @backupbear
I will never forget the screaming tone deafedness of that walking dildo bezos joking about how he couldn't figure out what to do with all his money then thought Space Program!
Made me want to beat him to death with a stick that said YOUR WEALTH IS BECAUSE YOU UNDERPAID YOUR WORKERS YOU STUPID GREEDY TWATWAFFLE!

it would need to be quite a large stick.

@backupbear And Captain Planet, where the villain was always a billionaire who would destroy the planet without a thought in order to make more money
@backupbear similar to Captain Planet in that way
@backupbear
The best model I have for the chaos we are seeing today was the "Pinky and the Brain" cartoon of yesteryear.
@backupbear I don’t remember the exact details but SonicX even did an episode where Dr Eggman ran for office and pushed his own electricity plan while secretly blotting out the sun and everyone praised him while Sonic and friends had to stop him/expose his plans.
@backupbear
The villains in our real life have become powerful and difficult to recognise. How can we now protect ourselves from them?
@backupbear that, and being stoned and wanting pizza is perfectly normal.
@backupbear
They also taught us to be sceptical of the Supernatural, a point my partner only realised recently - he always hated it because there weren't any real ghosts or monsters and I had to point out that was what they were trying to show you.
