@floppyplopper @Rastal There are plenty of reasons for not getting involved in the Iran war even if the Uk is involved because it has allowed Trumpty to use bases in the UK for US planes to launch attacks on Iran. Trump’s gung ho stupidity risks sparking Islamic extremism and 9-11 type acts of terrorism as well as messing up the global economy.

the war is illegal. a war of aggression. one of the aggressors is wanted by the ICC for genocide. the other literally was on the brink of war with NATO (of which UK is still a member) less than 2 months ago.

making an exception for USA in this instance will make it impossible to prosecute Russia for the invasion of Ukraine and will precipitate further conflicts worldwide in a world where only the capacity to inflict suffering matters.

there is no case legal, moral or in realpolitik for the UK to be involved.

then there is the matter of practicalities. The USS Gerald Ford is the most advanced carrier in the US fleet. if they can't handle it maybe it can't be handled. even if the US and Israel achieves total social collapse in the manner of Iraq, that's the best case.

leave trump to his dien bien phu, his gallipoli, his stalingrad.

i realise i'm skipping a lot of other reasons not to touch this.

@floppyplopper @Rastal Yup, Trump started this, he’s a self proclaimed genius so he is obviously about to sort it out. Why would such a genius require anyone’s help? PS This is precisely how I expected a war started by Trump to go: disastrously.
