I am thinking to travel to Latvia & Lithuania next week, since there are ferries from Sweden, from 18 to 28 of March, as a birthday gift to myself for my 40th birthday.

The Scandinavian winter has been extremely hard for my mental health, due to the darkness (it was the darkest winter for Northern Europe since 1934) so I really need a trip now that the snow melted and the spring is emerging.

I am also still trying to overcome the traumatizing deforestation incident that I experienced here 4 months ago (I haven't moved yet, and as it seems I will move in April due to bureaucracy issues that don't allow us to install a fence for the dog right after the moving day. Unbelievable things.)

I would love to meet with likeminded people who care about the Earth and all animals. I plan to be in Riga 19-20/3, in Vilnius 20-22/3 and in Kaunas after that.

I am open to visiting more places around these countries so please hit me up with ideas, recommendations of vegan restaurants / cafes and whatever cultural is worth to be visited!

Last, but not least, I would love to visit farm sanctuaries so if you know of any to recommend, please send me a private message.

My heart needs light, sun and joy, now, more than ever.

@climatemigrant I recommend Sigulda, Palanga, Liepaja, Klaipeda (guess your ferry is going there) and, of course, Trakai 🥰
@rhelune I am taking the ferry to Latvia because it's 9h and so it's cheaper and faster than going to Lithuania. I don't know where I will go back from though. Thank you very much for the recommendations!! I am in awe with Palanga!! I am taking my swimsuit with me, that was unexpected!! I was a winter swimmer in Greece but I doubt if I will manage to enter that sea at this time...Trakai also looks so beautiful. Thank you so much for the recommendations!!
@climatemigrant Oh, I forgot Jurmala, very worth a visit! Have a wonderful time!
@rhelune great,I will look on the map to see how I can visit these places. Are you from Latvia or from Lithuania?
@climatemigrant No, I was just there (and in Estonia) on a road trip in 2018, so I researched and visited those places.
@climatemigrant the charmingly old-school vegetarian (I think not fully vegan but I could be wrong) restaurant "Vilties vaistinės arbatinė in Kaunas is definitely worth a visit.
@twaagoo thank you for the recommendation!!

@climatemigrant well some of the greatest of places is going to be estonia (for eco-friendly digital nomads) and poland if you're in the area. I think the carpathian mountains are a retreat. Warsaw is an up and coming vegan capital in the making!

However, in the winter, we're supposed to hibernate. It's because of our modern lifestyles that we forget that and it makes us very unwell mentally. So realize it's ok to rest during the winter.

Well the best I can do is give you my travel database - https://1drv.ms/x/c/46349a59aa267f82/IQCCfyaqWZo0IIBGX6cBAAAAAdrNvUnunvQm2RogITBSqMU?e=3RMZcl - as I haven't been to lithuania nor latvia.

That said I have some ai generated images of potential vegan food there and plating if it helps you find!

If you're in the area - probably slovenia is as gorgeous as you can get. Bohemia is likely a vegan respite!

@crystalzenith I agree with you 100% on the hibernation comment and I don't mind resting. One of my favorite books is "rest is resistence" by Tricia Hersey who founded the nap ministry. I can't go all the way to Poland and Estonia. I will leave these for a future trip with my partner. Now I will limit my travel to Latvia and Lithuania (because I also have friends to see in Lithuania). Thanks for the database!👍
@climatemigrant and for food places in Rīga, definitely consider visiting Mazā terapija (vegan) and MIIT (not sure, certainly vegetarian with plenty of vegan options), both with good food and very pleasant atmosphere.
