Der durch große Heideflächen geprägte Platz ist als Lebensraum für zahlreiche vom Aussterben bedrohte Tierarten wie Zauneidechse und Wiesenpieper gesetzlich geschützt. Auf dem Gelände betreiben die Stadtwerke Bielefeld nahe der Startbahn elf Trinkwasserbrunnen für das Wasserwerk 3, das jährlich bis zu 450.000 Kubikmeter wertvolles Trinkwasser für die Bielefelder Bürger*innen fördert. Der Flugbetrieb gefährdet das Trinkwasser, deshalb ist die Ausweisung eines Wasserschutzgebietes...
