Itโ€™s 2026, and some people still believe women donโ€™t belong in tech. But we're here to prove them wrong. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

At Vivaldi, women are cofounders, sys admins, developers, QA engineers, HR, community specialists, and office managers. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

If you're a woman in tech, what do you do?

#8mars #8march #internationalWomensDay

@Vivaldi I'm an IT System Architect at a hydropower company.
@Vivaldi working as a computer engineer; physicist by training.
@Vivaldi IT requirements engineer and process expert for the internal software of a big shipping company. Used to program myself but now I know too much about the legacy system and have to guide others in building the modern system ๐Ÿ˜‚
(And in my free time I draw comics which is what my account is mostly about)
@Vivaldi I run a IT helpdesk. I've been doing it for over 20 years
Librecast on building the next-generation internet: โ€œThe code we create and the tools we use can help or harm humanity. We write our political values into our codeโ€

This month we speak to Esther Payne, community manager and privacy advocate at Librecast. The organisation develops free and open-source (FOSS) software to enable multicast transmitting data to groups simultaneously without depending on a centralised structure.

@onepict as you should! I love your rights-based approach to your technology, and the fact that you value and help build community within tech. As a person who holds a master's in Human Rights and is currently working as a community specialist a tech company, your message truly resonated. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a nice week!
@Vivaldi thank you. It's nice to know a little about the person behind the account. Especially in these times ๐Ÿ˜Š
@onepict there's a thin line between managing a brand account in an authentic way, while also preserving one's right to privacy! But I get where you're coming from. Luckily this is a very safe company with a strong focus on community. (I just realized I didn't include it in my original response, but I'm a woman as well. ๐Ÿ™‚)

@Vivaldi You're right, and my case is different because my project @librecast is still building and we are fortunate to have received help from @NGIZero it's a very different circumstance. As I feel it's important for folks to know who's on our project. But we've also got a responsibility to be open to folks on here.

Also as a woman you have to assess how much to put out there. Especially as as you point out Vivaldi is a browser but you're posting on it's behalf.

@Vivaldi But I totally get where you're coming from.

Because for many women online in the public eye, harrassment and stalking are a sad fact of life.

@Em0nM4stodon sorry to hear that, but I see that your post got a lot of engagement, so hopefully something good will come out of it. Best of luck!
@Vivaldi Thank you Vivaldi, I appreciate your support, browser, and incredible presence on the Fediverse  โค๏ธ
@Em0nM4stodon @Vivaldi Its browser is awesome. Totally recommended
@Em0nM4stodon I wish you the best! Thanks for everything you've done with Privacy Guides.
@hyperreal Thank you! ๐Ÿ’š
@Vivaldi I studied materials science, went into industrial quality stuff. I do complex improvement projects with a lot of statistics. For each problem, I need to combine mechanical, thermal, electrical and corrosion knowledge to solve it.
@stahldame I stand impressed ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
@Vivaldi WiFi was created by a Woman

@Vivaldi

"Women don't belong" is such an American idea. I'm over it.

@Vivaldi what do you do to acknowledge this on the other 364 days of the year?

@wheresalice I wholeheartedly support your question to make sure we're not virtue-signaling here. I'm a woman and this post was published out of my own initiative, it's not part of any pre-planned social media strategies or anything like that.

I don't think I can answer your question other than with examples from my own experience, but you're welcome to send an email to our HR and Office Culture Manager ([email protected]), I'm sure she will be happy to give you a more detailed answer.

@Vivaldi

Do you?

So how many male/female/other employees do you have? And what is the average salary of each category?

#letusknow

@fubaroque well I don't know what the question refers to. I am a woman, and we are 10 women (in a team of 57, if I'm not mistaken). I don't personally know what my colleagues make, although all salaries are of public domain in Norway, I haven't checked. If you want to discuss this further you're welcome to send an email to our HR manager ([email protected]), she will able to give you a much more detailed response :)
@Vivaldi I work at a robotics company where I run and maintain the fleet used for software testing.
@Vivaldi freelance software engineer
I mainly port legacy code to modern stuff
@Vivaldi @ all women
I am a man. I am here to shout a Respect! and best wishes for all women. We, men, will never be near your ability to multitasking and multifocus I admire. Respect!
@Vivaldi Iโ€™m the computer lab manager for an R1 university.
@Vivaldi Any suggested alternatives to Proton since they're helping authoritarians now?

@karamazov1879 @Vivaldi

One, Proton are following the law in the country in which they are incorporated and only provided billing information which was then able to be linked to a person. If that person had exercised better op sec, their billing information would have been inadequate for that task.

Two, @Tutanota

@Vivaldi I work in my own 3d-printing company Pikkujuttuja3d (Eng. "Littlethings3d")

@Vivaldi in data security for 25 years.

Firewalls, proxy servers, IDS / IPS, VPNs, Wi-Fi, forensics, vulnerability management, pen testing, FIM and configuration drift, developing and writing policies and procedures, more reporting, ad-hoc data analysis, and cobbled pseudo-SOAR than I can summarize. Now doing actual SOAR / Hyperautomation.

@jrdepriest you dropped this ๐Ÿ‘‘

@Vivaldi
