I'm going to sound biased here, but people should hire more women in tech.

Yes, I'm looking. Why do you ask? πŸ‘€

@Em0nM4stodon πŸ‘€ I look forward to read you here still with privacy & security posts 😁 πŸ’š πŸ™

Sincerely

@Em0nM4stodon This time, I will be biased…
For the woman in Gaza and the little girl there do not dream of luxury; they struggle for a bite of food and a sip of water.
Here, the simplest rights of life have become a distant dream πŸ’”https://chuffed.org/project/148362-layan-dreams-of-school-not-hunger-in-gaza

My name is Layan, and I live with my family in Gaza, right on the frontlines of the bombing and fighting. Life here has become unbearable.

@Em0nM4stodon more women should apply for jobs in tech.
@utzer I do, right now even.
@Em0nM4stodon sorry, what I meant was that the number of applications are very low, at least we don't get many applications from women usually, but well it is an engineering problem I assume.
@utzer Sometimes it's the job description. Something important to consider as well. I hope you can find a way to increase this number. Perhaps reaching out directly to women with the expertise you are looking for might help. Many may have missed the job post, depending on where it was shared. Good luck!

@Em0nM4stodon Ha! We actually have that, and almost parity. At least up to the CxO level, though we are hiring at the moment πŸ˜€
Makes sense, just hire the best people for the job. I know I do.
We still have a few stupid old men in perceived positions of authority, but 1) we fight back and 2) that problem will take care of itself...

No, I don't want a pat on the head or something, I want to tell people that it is possible and a good idea!

(and before you ask: pay is equal, yay for unions!)

@drchaos Fantastic! πŸ™ŒπŸ’š

@Em0nM4stodon And I hate it that this is still something that is not the norm! I really cannot wrap my head around that. There are many women (and men) out there way more intelligent than I am. The kind of plumbing you have and your preferences should only matter when looking for a partner! Not at work.

(and no, I'm not a young leftist whatsit, I am approaching 50, cis white male, and I used to think I'm conservative (not reactionary, that's what the term has come to mean....))

@Em0nM4stodon The director -> VP pipeline is rough for women. Trying to find VPs with past VP experience, and it's like, almost all men except people who've built their own companies.
@Em0nM4stodon can we make our own companies with woman and federation? Not sure what about but it would be cool
@nickynah I'm listening πŸ‘€
@Em0nM4stodon I’m going to take this chance to pitch an idea I had but have not seen fully fleshed out.
Audit Trails: this is bigggg need in most companies and I don’t see a lot of tools for it. They are specially sensitive, important and require a lot of privacy work.
I’ve seen audit trails for other tools (AWS, DD, etc) but not for apps themselves. Like a high availability fault tolerant audit trails service with UI, API, deletion, RBAC, the whole thingy
And I think it fits the open source/Hosted business model.
(Not sure if you were really asking, but is something I think about)

@Em0nM4stodon

I ran away from IT support tech to do arts.

Should I go back?

@Em0nM4stodon @catsalad Here’s a list of companies doing remote, hope it’s helpful! https://taffer.ca/posts/2025/remote/
