I think a Friday is a good day to start the next round of submissions for the Albums of the year as chosen by users of the #Fediverse #blog. So with that being said, what is your one submission for the best album of 1991. Previous years in the next post.
Albums of the year as chosen by users of the Fediverse - 1997

The time has now come to collect and present the results of Albums of the year 1997 as chosen by users of the Fediverse. There are plenty of great albums ...

Hails and Ales Club

@HailsandAles

Therapy? - Babyteeth
Smashing Pumpkins - Gish
Ned's Atomic Dustbin - God Fodder
Blur - Leisure
Orbital - "The Green Album"
Wedding Present - Seamonsters

The first five were debut albums.

Such a good year. Loads more to find but I'm busy!

@HailsandAles choosing one alone though - Nevermind.
@HailsandAles Some great albums that year. However, one of them was Loveless, so I'm not sure there's any point in going further. Of course Loveless was the best.

@HailsandAles Nevermind.

And "Like an Ever Flowing Stream"

@ttntm okay. Which one?
@HailsandAles ah, sorry. Nevermind, the Dismember as honorable mention.

@HailsandAles

I think I have to go with
Melvins- Bullhead

I'll save the extensive list and give a smaller runner up list
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Voivod - Angel Rat
Old - Lo Flux Tube
Swervedriver - Raise
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool
Dinosaur Jr. - Green Mind
Drive Like Jehu - s/t
Headcandy - Starcaster
Warrior Soul - God Drugs and the New Republic
Paradise Lost - Gothic
Slint - Spiderland
Pixies - Trompe Le Monde
Tad - 8-way Santa
Treepeople - Guilt Regret Embarrassment…

@HailsandAles Metallica - Metallica. Just to piss off everyone. 😎
@m1rk0 @HailsandAles its legit a contender for me. It’s the first metal album I ever loved
@brh @m1rk0 @HailsandAles it's a fucking great album and these "first 4 snobs" can chew an old sock.
Kill em all is not even that good.

@HailsandAles I think this and ‘67 might be the only two years I could do without even thinking about it.

"Nevermind” for me, please.

@HailsandAles thats a year thats gonna start arguments!!

@HailsandAles I know an album that won't make the list:

Zard - Mō Sagasanai

@HailsandAles ha! Hell yes. My album every year list becomes useful for the first time. 😂 I know mine! Meat Puppets - Forbidden Places.

@HailsandAles Hmm, there are some great ones for '91.

*Bullhead* by Melvins is a close second, but I have to go with my heart and pick Laurie Spiegel's *Unseen Worlds* as my top album of 1991.

@HailsandAles To be honest, the last time I struggled to find an album I loved enough to nominate. But 1991, what an incredibly strong year!

I go with Bathory's "Twilight of the Gods".

(Otherwise it probably would have been Pearl Jam's "Ten".)

@HailsandAles Pearl Jam - Ten

Not a difficult one, that. 🤣

@HailsandAles Pearl Jam - Ten!

Honourable mentions:
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
Temple of the Dog - s/t

And, what baby me was *actually* listening to over and over in 1991:
Amy Grant - Heart in Motion

@HailsandAles

Fushitsusha - s/t (PSFD-15/16)

Honourable mention:
Hijokaidan - Windom

@HailsandAles It’s Loveless all day every day for me but if I’m honest I listened to Badmotorfinger and Blessed Are The Sick more. Still, the Irish volume merchants are my pick.

@HailsandAles There was a Queen release that year. But, there also was this one. And I love this one, so I'm going with 👇

The KLF - The White Room

@derthomas @HailsandAles still as awesome as the day it was released.
@FourT4 yes!
Although nowadays it's almost impossible to find the original mix. Streaming services only have remixed versions which just don't do it for me.
Luckily I have the original CD, that's by far the best version.
@HailsandAles
@derthomas @HailsandAles triggered. My brother spent that year listening to this, NWA's Efil4Zaggin, and REM's Out Of Time, while I was trying to get on with my little metal journeys. Please let the metal win!!
@HailsandAles Slowdive - Just For A Day

@alicemcalicepants @HailsandAles reminds me simultaneously of two songs:

Slowdive ... take it easy ... (Foghat - Slow ride)

Let's get away, just for one day ... (Depeche Mode - Stripped)

My brain is a hot mess of duct tape, noodles, and popcorn

Lovelyville, by Thinking Fellers Union Local 282

22 track album

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282
@HailsandAles has to be Carcass, Necroticism — Descanting the Insalubrious

@HailsandAles "30 Something" - Carter USM.

"The White Room" - The KLF

@FourT4 what one?

@HailsandAles oh "30 Something" by a country mile especially since someone else as already nominated the KLF!

sorry, you did toot "your one nomination" and I didn't read carefully!

@HailsandAles I'm not sure... Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Spin Doctors, GNR, R.E.M....hmmm...
OK:
Pearl Jam - Ten

@HailsandAles jeez that’s quite the year - it’s kinda foundational in terms of my taste in music.

It’s a bit of a coin flip, but I’ll go with

Pearl Jam - Ten

Runners up:

Nirvana - Nevermind
Metallica - black album
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
GnR - Use Your Illusion I and II
Smashing Pumpkins - Gish + the Lull EP
Ani Difranco - Not So Soft
Temple of the Dog - s/t
RHCP - Blood Sugar Sex Magik

@HailsandAles I'm gonna go with 'Gothic' by Paradise Lost.

'Ten' by Pearl Jam a very close second place.

Then Soundgarden.

GnR and 'tallica a bit further behind.

@HailsandAles people love Pearl Jam, never would have thought this would be the most popular choice…
@fistfulofdave for me it’s Human by Death

@HailsandAles I just assumed Nirvana or Soundgarden would be the choice if it were a “grunge” band. Personally I can’t listen to Ten anymore, this rarely happens with me.

I need to revisit Human.

@fistfulofdave @HailsandAles At the time Ten was legit exciting, so was the Black Album tbh that's what I was actually listening to then. Crazy to think about...wasn't until 92 I first heard extreme metal or any underground stuff.
@fistfulofdave @HailsandAles Altho the early Metallica albums were extreme if you heard them before Slayer. And Deicide.
@jimhaku @HailsandAles I’m old so I yeah Accept “fast as a shark” was fucking insane in 1982.
@fistfulofdave @HailsandAles Oh, I was like 13 in '91. I go back to all the 80s stuff, it's kinda harder to talk to younger ppl that started with like Behemoth or Nile who think Slayer are boring.
@jimhaku @HailsandAles I’m abt 10 years older than you. So my metal starts with Sabbath/ Priest/Raibow right into the NWOBHM, then thrash and on and on.
@jimhaku @HailsandAles I was into Green River by 86 and then Mother Love Bone , so there was excitement for Pearl Jam. Saw them before Ten was released. Loved it initially. Then I didn’t. I don’t hate it but if it’s on the radio I’ll turn the station.
@fistfulofdave @HailsandAles PJ seemed fun live but I never saw em. I have friends who made that their main thing but I thought they fell off pretty hard after Ten and it's way too played out to actually put on.
@jimhaku @HailsandAles great live I think I saw them 4x. All around Ten. I didn’t like anything after Ten either.
@HailsandAles hell of a year.
Paradise Lost: Gothic
Morbid Angel: Blessed Are The Sick
Entombed: Clandestine
Cathedral: Forest of Equilibrium
Carcass: Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious
Sepultura: Arise
@gavgraham what’s your pick?
@HailsandAles so hard. Have to go with Paradise Lost, Gothic.

@gavgraham @HailsandAles Taken out the three I was going to throw into the mix; I can't look past Carcass.

I also want to mention Massacre's From Beyond, but, to be honest, that's mainly just because I love the opening track rather than having a particularly high opinion of the whole album.

@HailsandAles

Smashing Pumpkins - Gish

Honorable Mentions
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears
Material Issue - International Pop Overthrow

@HailsandAles Again not an easy choice.

I go with Queen's Innuendo.

Other strong candidates: R.E.M., Nirvana, INXS, Kraftwerk, Metallica, and Pearl Jam.

@HailsandAles Oh that is tough. You've got:
Sepultura - Arise
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Paradise Lost - Gothic
Solitude Aeturnus - Into the Depths of Sorrow
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
Dark Angel - Time Does Not Heal
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Gonna have to go with Solitude Aeturnus on this one, though Soundgarden are close.
