“If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class.”

This Ferrari has been parking in this spot illegally for over a year now. Regularly gets a ticket. But the owner does not care. Still cheaper and more comfortable than the parking garage 150m from this spot.

@bitboxer There have been some rulings where people lost their driving permits over repeated parking tickets because the repeated nature showed the driver's unwillingness to comply with rules, but that'd mean the (I guess) Staatsanwaltschaft were interested in pursuing such things…
@thegcat fun fact: the car is registered outside of germany. So nobody touching that. It’s too complex.
@bitboxer @thegcat isn't there an eu law requiring registration within germany if a car from another eu country is driven here for more than 6 months?
@asltf @bitboxer there is, but it's for tax purposes and it's easy/cheap to ignore…
@thegcat @asltf there is also the issue of insurance…might be uninsured if the car is outside of the country of registration for longer than 6 months, depending on the insurance contract
@bitboxer And that's why sliding scale fines based on income exist in some places...
Abschleppgruppe – Was kann man gegen Falschparker tun?

@zeitschlag natürlich, aber Berlin hat sich entschieden lieber fast alle anzeige einfach unbearbeitet wegzuschmeißen. Weil “nicht genug personal”
@bitboxer
Ob der wohl gut brennt?
@bitboxer place a brick on the windscreen, they’ll move it soon enough.
@bitboxer und niemand hat eine Schlüssel dabei? Pffft, losers.

“If the penalty for a crime is 'you have to go over there,' then that law only exists for the corporeal.”

Well, the rich are (at least for the time being) corporeal, too. Start towing it! Bonus points: the daily tow will probably be more expensive than the parking garage 😁

@bitboxer

@bitboxer This is exactly what people do in Sarajevo when parking in spaces reserved for people with disabilities.

@bitboxer Easily fixable by increasing the fine for every repeat offense, or by simply confiscating the vehicle.

Alternatively, in Switzerland the fine one gets for certain offenses, such as extreme speeding, is determined by a person's income. A millionaire quickly owes the state several thousand francs or even more. This usually works quite well.

@bitboxer Don't they tow illegally parked cars in Berlin? That would remove the convenience aspect.
@pointlessone sometimes they do. But only if the car is parked in a spot that endangers others. And often not even then 🫠
