This somewhat unconventional looking building Lebanese Maronite Cathedral in Parramatta.

@ajsadauskas Is this building inspired by the cathedral of Brasília or is there a common inspiration? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Bras%C3%ADlia

@violanders @ajsadauskas Not that I'm aware of, but it's definitely an interesting visual similarity...
@violanders
Also similar to Liverpool metropolitan cathedral.
@ajsadauskas
@ajsadauskas It looks just like the Cathedral of Brasília! I'm curious to know how the two projects are connected.
@ajsadauskas Lol, we lived directly across the river from her, she waved to us every day! Bless...
@sister_ratched @ajsadauskas Do you know any of the history behind it? Was it always a Lebanese cathedral? It's a very unique building!
@aj @ajsadauskas Good question. Don't think it was Lebanese back in the 60s, but can't be sure. Sorry, no use at all.

@ajsadauskas I used to see it off in the distance from the railway line every day. It looks rather like a tagine. Or maybe an inverted Gothic arch rotated around the y-axis, which would make sense if those struts are actually bearing the weight of the roof.

Nothing ruins architecture like a car park. We should build some sort of reserve far away from people where all the cars can frolic about in their natural habitat rather than overgrazing useful land like this.

@katyswain @ajsadauskas Car parks are *occasionally* useful. The instructions for my hospital visit this week tell me not to cycle, which is how I'd usually get there.

@ajsadauskas If I may chime in on the look-alike section of this thread: when I saw you pic I was instantaneously reminded of the Tempodrome in Berlin
