The cover of the Lancet says it all. The Trump administration is destroying healthcare and science.

@ErikJonker I'm unaware of the Lancet ever reckoning with legitimizing Wakefield in the first place beyond waiting TWELVE YEARS to retract the transparently fraudulent "vaccines cause autism" paper.
@tclark @ErikJonker
Yup. My first thought was they started it, didn't they?
@ErikJonker sick people are more profitable

@ErikJonker The irony being that The Lancet was the journal that published Andrew Wakefield's "research" into what he called "autistic enterocolitis".

They enabled this BS to happen. I don't have much sympathy for their crocodile tears.

Lancet MMR vaccine-autism report - Wikipedia

@stuartl @ErikJonker Would you prefer they support Kennedy?
@ariaflame @ErikJonker They always have. By being so slow in withdrawing that report, they green-lighted the future RF Kennedy head of Department of Health and Human Services… to proceed with this BS.
@ErikJonker I'm seeing a lot of "Lancet is just as bad as pseudoscience because Wakefield" arguments here. Watching Wakefield become the Sokal of modern medical inquiry is some Soviet-level jiujitsu.
@ErikJonker I shouldn't take the Lancet to inform the thinking public. Kennedy is deranged, deluded & dangerous
@ErikJonker If you ever wondered what happens on a larger scale, in states where fundamentalism takes over science, ethics, and respect.
@ErikJonker useful alt text:
The cover of The Lancet for the period of February 28 - March 6, 2026, which is all white except for a quote in green text "The destruction that Kennedy has wrought in 1 year might take generations to repair, and there is little hope for US health and science while he remains at the helm" with small text below saying "See Editorial page 825"

@ErikJonker

A criminal offense...

@ErikJonker This is the same journal that took 12 years to retract Wakefield's fraudulent and extremely damaging article, which has killed who knows how many people, despite serious concerns and criticisms raised in the SAME ISSUE. And has YET to retract the PACE trial, despite that being thorougly debunked.

Maybe sit this one, "Both Sides" Lancet.

@wesdym @ErikJonker I take the opposite view from this - if EVEN the Lancet have spotted the problem, then it is reasonable to assume things are pretty dire...
