First leg of my interrail is not technically interrail, but a bus from Oulu to Haparanda, Sweden, paid without any concession. Feels weird to start the trip south by traveling northwards.

The Finnish ticket shop Matkahuolto insists on using Finnish time everywhere, so according to timetable I’ll be arriving 13:05, instead of the actual 12:05. Also SJ sometimes shows timetables in user’s local time, making that, too an hour off. Annoying and unpractical.

@mkivinen Is that bus to the shared Tornio/Haparanda bus station? Then it is understandable that they show Finnish time, as the station is for both towns.

Some days ago I did manage to get Matkahuolto to show the arrival in local time for a bus from Kemi to Haparanda railway station, which definitely is in Sweden. (This is a bus connection that begins next month.)

But not sure how I did it, when I now search for the same connections, it shows just Finnish times, and I can't even get a result that would be displayed as in this screenshot. Maybe I used another site than matkahuolto.fi after all?

@tml the Reitit & liput app shows local times, maybe it was that.

@mkivinen Ah, and it is reittiopas.matkahuolto.fi that shows local times for Haparanda railway station. (And allows you to specify time of day for the search.)

Consistency is overrated.

@mkivinen More fun inconsistencies: When searching for buses on March 2nd from Kemi railway station to Haparanda railway station, the https://reittiopas.matkahuolto.fi site shows the route on the map with correct locations for start and end stops, and the couple of stops in-between, but with just straight line segments between them.

For the opposite journey, it doesn't manage to correctly show the journey starting at Haparanda railway station, but screws up the route completely there. The rest of the route does follow the actual road, though.

@tml @mkivinen Whoa, who came up with this schedule? There’s a bus too early and two busses too late?
@partim @mkivinen The best experts available to Tornio municipality, no doubt!
@partim @mkivinen If I were a cynic, I would say that the purpose with this schedule is to show that nobody uses such buses anyway, so they can be cancelled after a few months.
@tml @mkivinen There will be trains from this summer, no? Hopefully they will have a more sane schedule.
@partim @mkivinen That is what I hope, sure, but before I actually sit in such a train I wouldn't bet on it.
