"Any trade deal with Canada will include tariffs, says Trump's trade rep"

""When we go to other countries, and we make a deal with them ... they agree that we can have a tariff on them," Greer told CBC News correspondent Katie Simpson."

Well, Jamieson, your Supreme Court says they are illegal. And you're missing the point of a free trade deal and how arrogant and ignorant of you.

Tariffs are a must in any trade deal with Canada, says Trump's trade rep | CBC News

U.S. President Donald Trump's point man on trade talks says Canada needs to accept that tariffs will be a part of any deal with the administration, including renewal of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement.

""Put American wine and spirits back on the shelf; they haven't done that. To reopen to America procurement opportunities; they haven't done that. To give us fair access to their dairy markets; they haven't done that," Greer told CBC News producer Sylvia Thomson."

Liquor stores are under provincial purview, and screw American alcohol. We don't want to buy it. These asses do not understand this basic thing: screw with us, insult us, find new markets.

As for our dairy market, having dairy that uses the bovine growth hormone, screw that. This is an opportunity for our own dairy farmers.
Pedophiles and rapists never learned to take no for an answer and push through life as bullies. I look forward to them all falling on their faces. Justice is coming at some point.
@CStamp
47 is removing all safeguards on pesticides, food safety and what they feed animals. No Canadian should consider any food from the US safe. They get regular food poisonings down there now. It's only going to get worse.
And yes, they can stuff their dairy demands where the sun don't shine. They overproduce. We don't subsidize our dairy. We pay market prices and control the suppl;y so that our farmers can earn a living. Europeans are impressed.
@wordstitcher Yes to all that. They are not worthy of any trust.
@CStamp @wordstitcher won't trust em for a long time even if they do dump that dementia ridden president of theirs.
@Jam123 @wordstitcher Yeah, that is something else they are ignoring or about which they are being wilfully ignorant.

@Jam123 @CStamp @wordstitcher in all seriousness, Donald Trump is the most extreme example of Malignant Narcissism but I can't see him having dementia-like symptoms. Nothing wrong with his memory for example.

However, could he have a condition we haven't yet described in the DSM ? I cannot honestly say ive met or heard of anyone that comes close to Trump's particular brand of behaviour

@wordstitcher @CStamp

I've been avoiding onions grown in the US. Onions. Like, that most basic of root vegetables, but who the hell knows what gets into, and stays in, them? Peruvian and Ontarian onions aren't any more expensive, really.

I am somewhat happy to see that the Kraken is being bottled domestically now, but I'm wondering about the supply chain before I go out and grab any.

@theogrin @wordstitcher The kraken? :)

I avoid all US products on principle. Farmers were a strong pro-Spanky group, screw’em. They saw what he did in his first regime and decided “more of that.” They are supposed to be business people. Spanky hurt their business first time around, it was ridiculous to think he’d do better this time around.

And his chucking out health standards is chilling. Canada, Mexico, any food product not from US.

@CStamp @wordstitcher

Oh, the Kraken is a variety of spiced dark rum, typically held as one of the better mass-market variants. In its lack, I've tried some of the others, sometimes to positive results, sometimes negative: Goslings is a good decent pick, Captain Morgan's is very mid and about what you'd expect, and I've quite enjoyed the Old Monk for the past bit.

Kraken's back on the LCBO's shelves as it's now being bottled in Canada, not sure if that'll last.

#alcohol #liquor

@theogrin @wordstitcher Ah, thanks. Not a rum drinker. :)
@theogrin @CStamp @wordstitcher
Switched to “black” rum from Ironworks Distillery in Lunenburg,
Nova Scotia.

@Ferencz @CStamp @wordstitcher

Bluenose? I haven't seen it on the shelves over here in Ontario, but as they're a smol distillery, that's not much of a surprise. If I get a wild hair I might have to seek them out.

@theogrin Ask at your local LCBO. Sometimes they can order stuff in. @Ferencz @wordstitcher
@theogrin @CStamp @wordstitcher
Just order direc from their website….they will ship
@Ferencz Ironworks is cool. It really has been an opportunity to discover local and Canadian products. :) @theogrin @wordstitcher
@theogrin @CStamp
In BC and VI, we have a lot of our own produce, meat and dairy. Choice can be limited, but no one HAS to buy US products. Fresh produce prices here are much better in the small, local supermarket chains - half the price of Loblaws affiliates.
@CStamp I’d also like to know how much migrant labour the U.S. uses within the dairy industry. Anecdotally, they seem to employ a lot more low-cost workers than Canada.

@CAWguy US has 10Xs our population, so numbers would be bigger. Here’s a breakdown of migrant farm workers in Canada: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=3210021801

“A report from the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) reveals that immigrant workers account for 51 per cent of all dairy labour in the US. Moreover, dairies that employ immigrant labourers produce a staggering 79 per cent of the US milk supply, according to Dairy Herd Management.”

Temporary foreign workers in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, by industry

This table provides the number of temporary foreign workers, the number of jobs filled by temporary foreign workers and the number of operations with at least one temporary foreign worker in the agriculture et agri-food sectors, by industry in Canada and in the provinces.

@CStamp Thanks for finding this. While it’s hard to compare directly, that seems like a very low number of migrants in the dairy industry here vs the 79% of U.S. milk processed with their labour.

@CAWguy Yeah, again, the US population is 10Xs ours.

I imagine with migrants in US now so fearful, the US dairy industry will be impacted in a big way. I feel so sorry for the cows who will need milking.

@CStamp don’t need lactation hormones in milk either.
@CStamp
Never been a fan of California wines, or any booze or beer from the US. It's either not on the shelves now or not moving. Good. We need more Quebec beer and cider in BC, for instance, and more of everything moving across this country. We don't need the US for food or drink.
@wordstitcher Opening up trade between provinces is an about time thing. There are lots of really good Canadian products, and it really is ridiculous that there hasn’t been more provincial trade.
