"Any trade deal with Canada will include tariffs, says Trump's trade rep"

""When we go to other countries, and we make a deal with them ... they agree that we can have a tariff on them," Greer told CBC News correspondent Katie Simpson."

Well, Jamieson, your Supreme Court says they are illegal. And you're missing the point of a free trade deal and how arrogant and ignorant of you.

Tariffs are a must in any trade deal with Canada, says Trump's trade rep | CBC News

U.S. President Donald Trump's point man on trade talks says Canada needs to accept that tariffs will be a part of any deal with the administration, including renewal of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement.

""Put American wine and spirits back on the shelf; they haven't done that. To reopen to America procurement opportunities; they haven't done that. To give us fair access to their dairy markets; they haven't done that," Greer told CBC News producer Sylvia Thomson."

Liquor stores are under provincial purview, and screw American alcohol. We don't want to buy it. These asses do not understand this basic thing: screw with us, insult us, find new markets.

As for our dairy market, having dairy that uses the bovine growth hormone, screw that. This is an opportunity for our own dairy farmers.
@CStamp I’d also like to know how much migrant labour the U.S. uses within the dairy industry. Anecdotally, they seem to employ a lot more low-cost workers than Canada.

@CAWguy US has 10Xs our population, so numbers would be bigger. Here’s a breakdown of migrant farm workers in Canada: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=3210021801

“A report from the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) reveals that immigrant workers account for 51 per cent of all dairy labour in the US. Moreover, dairies that employ immigrant labourers produce a staggering 79 per cent of the US milk supply, according to Dairy Herd Management.”

Temporary foreign workers in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, by industry

This table provides the number of temporary foreign workers, the number of jobs filled by temporary foreign workers and the number of operations with at least one temporary foreign worker in the agriculture et agri-food sectors, by industry in Canada and in the provinces.

@CStamp Thanks for finding this. While it’s hard to compare directly, that seems like a very low number of migrants in the dairy industry here vs the 79% of U.S. milk processed with their labour.

@CAWguy Yeah, again, the US population is 10Xs ours.

I imagine with migrants in US now so fearful, the US dairy industry will be impacted in a big way. I feel so sorry for the cows who will need milking.
