We have proposed to open negotiations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia to extend the EU’s 'Roam Like at Home' regime to these Western Balkan countries.

This would allow people travelling between the EU and Western Balkans to call, text and use mobile data without roaming surcharges, making it easier and more affordable for them to stay in touch while abroad for study, work or holidays.

@EUCommission
Happy days!!! We won't need to get a new sim or pay again every time we visit.
@EUCommission How are the Uk being about all this? We want to roam like we’re at home too!
#stupidBrexit
@WilliamHeath @EUCommission can't you? My daughter just went to London some months ago and I recall her using her EU phone data and calls normally.
@GelatDeTramussos AFAIK it depends on your mobile carrier. Some still offer it, others don’t. For example, Deutsche Telekom still includes roaming in the UK and Switzerland, but their subsidiary "fraenk" only covers Switzerland, not the UK.
@GelatDeTramussos @EUCommission it’s possible with some services eg Phone Coop still offers EU roaming at UK prices. But many of them don’t I believe
@WilliamHeath @EUCommission I guess it is something that can be discussed between EU and phone companies. It seems you don't need to be part of the EU to have roaming in the EU. But being an EU member certainly helps. 😬
@EUCommission
Great, the more countries, the better.
But why is it that if I'm with my phone (from .pl) somewhere (e.g., in .fr) I can call all Polish numbers for free, wherever they are, but calling someone's French number who stands right next to me is expensive? Where's the point?
@wariat @EUCommission roaming only applies to mobile data internet connection, it has nothing to do with the call rates of your carrier (only the data rates).

@trzyglow
Still, being outside of my country I can call by phone any number registered in my country, no matter where it currently is, and it's free. Nobody pays a cent.
Same time have to pay extra for call someone registered same BTS as I am because he is registered in country i'm currently.
For me it's strange.

@EUCommission

@wariat @EUCommission
edit: was confuse for a second; i agree it is a strange system.
@wariat @trzyglow @EUCommission If I had to guess, I'd say that's the next step.
@EUCommission, great! Making Europe closer together, so even more people fell as at home anywhere in Europe 🥰
@EUCommission you should propose also to Monaco.
@EUCommission This is great, hope our government doesn't 🪛 it up.
@EUCommission Calling it 'regime' gets a yikes from me.

@book
why? It does have more than one meaning....
According to the Cambridge dictionary

Meaning of regime in English

regime
noun [ C ]
uk /reɪˈʒiːm/ us /reɪˈʒiːm/
regime noun [C] (MANAGEMENT)

"a particular way of operating or organizing a business, etc.:"

@EUCommission

@SnowyCA @EUCommission Anytime anything is called regime in popular media, it's totalitarian or despotic.

@book Is it possible that you think of that based on your personal experience? (it's not my first go to.) When I read that word, I think of a plan for healthy eating and exercise, not politics.

@EUCommission

@SnowyCA @EUCommission Oh, very possibly.

@book

I think language is both objective and subjective

@EUCommission

@EUCommission The question is about with you - do you know what's a real home, because also 'virtual home' is about question mark. 🤔
