Dotnet devs that have abandoned Windows, where did you land? I’ve been using Pop OS on my personal devices for a few years. The 22.04 release worked, but definitively felt heavy at times. The new 24.04 release is snappier, but I’ll be damned if I can’t get dotnet installed on it. With 2 under 2, I don’t have a lot of time to troubleshoot. I’d like to avoid picking up a used mac, but I won’t rule it out. #dotnet #linux #popos

I’ll probably end up giving Mint a try. That said, I stumbled upon vfox that was able to get the dotnet 10 sdk installed without much fuss.

@nealwebb I've been on #ubuntu for years now. And I'm all, 100% #dotnet
@nealwebb I have two devices private MacBook Pro and work Framework 13 with Fedora KDE and both are working without problems with dotnet in terms of using / creating dotnet software

@nealwebb I’m switching between two machines, a MacBook Pro (MacOS), and a much more powerful desktop running Fedora 43.

Apart from the constant OOM issues, Fedora it’s absolutely fine for web development in dotnet

@nealwebb
I switched to Debian 13 w. Gnome because it's swift agile and not bloated with snap.
Jetbrains Rider is several times faster than on Win11.
@nealwebb I'm on Mint. I'll admit it wasn't a completely smooth experience for #dotnet development, mostly because I want the latest versions asap. But, using the script install works well. Rider and VS Code are exactly the same as on Windows. Mint is easy to install and keep updated, ux feels familiar too.
@nealwebb I’m also on a Framework 13 with Fedora GNOME and I don’t have any problems to report with dotnet.

@nealwebb I’m developing with dotnet Maui for iOS and Android. I’m using MacBooks - currently two (three with the backup one) MacBook Air (and some rather old Xamarin code for fixing on an old MacBook Pro - but currently unused because no chance to fix that old ones because iOS needs newer Xcode to upload - and meanwhile everything is migrated to Maui )

It works great and I have iOS simulator and Android emulator running fast on those machines.

@nealwebb
Only Ubuntu LTS versions (22.04 and 24.04 as of today) can officially be enrolled into Intune. So if you are in such a corporate environment they've made this choice for you.

@nealwebb MacOS and Linux Mint

Both work great with .NET
