The weekend is coming in about 45 min from now, and I am thinking to change distro, just for the fun of it.

I been using PopOs for the last few years. I love the cosmic desktop but I feel in my left pinky toe that I need a change. Even just for a lil while till the stable release will come out of pop on rust…. Maybe, arch? Fedora? Windows! No! I apologise, that went too far.

Trying my damndest to switch from #PopOS to #Trisquel, but my #bash-fu is pretty rusty. First Popsicle is useless in #GUI mode because I can’t run under su privileges, then I found #gksudo was deprecated in favor of #pkexec, here’s hoping the third times the charm. #gnulinux #FOSS #Linux #Libré

@alex I recently replaced the as shipped OS on a ThinkPad with Pop_OS! and everything works - the red nubbin, the fingerprint reader, trackpad, control over backlit keyboard, sound, all the ports. Literally nothing to do except pull my repo and start using it. #popos is the end of my distro flipping. The UI improvements are superb also, while underneath it still feels like Ubuntu. Hats off.

@hexaheximal gotta hand it to you, it's been a long time since I wanted to try something enough to compile it myself.

FWIW the dependency hell on #Ubuntu / #PopOS 22.04 only went as deep as: #Niri -> libinput; the rest was up-to-date enough to come straight from Synaptic.

Linux is historically famous for poor driver support, but my Motu M2 audio interface works out of the box with #PopOS, whereas windows and mac require drivers to install.

And everything else works great, zero config.

hi hello #HiveMind, I've got an old VivoBook S15 X530UA that I bought in grad school.

It's running #PopOS #Linux and it's working great, no complaints. Outside of: The battery is shot. It will only get you like.... 25 minutes when not plugged in, which is 😬

Question: Where do people go for replacement #laptop batteries? Esp for old laptops? Tried battdepot but they don't seem to have this model. Bonus points if in #Edmonton area, or a Canadian online store.

... or is it too old??

Well done! Welcome to the "I'm-finally-done-with-Windows" club.

I made the jump in 2018. #Kubuntu for a few years, then briefly #ZorinOS & #Ubuntu. Now happily using #linuxMint for a couple of years.

#PopOS is a great choice!

Probably because of this, I have a freaking frustrating issue on GNOME and GTK. My window buttons are on the right side again, and I can't seem to change that. For Electron apps and some others, they're on the left like they should be, but for Nautilus, GNOME Terminal, etc., they're on the right.

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout has no effect whatsoever, and neither do GNOME Tweaks or Refine. I've even tried editing the CSS directly at $HOME/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css since GNOME Terminal seems to obey it, but the buttons still won't change.

I've been bashing my head about this for a while. Any tips, my fellow Linux nerds?

Please note that I use Gnome (Pop Shell) with X11 again.
