yeah, no sympathy.
these assholes shitted up all the google image search results for years with "the exact image youre looking for but when you click on it, you get to a landing page that forces you to create an account to get the image"

sounds like the same issues imgur has now - the owners hollowed out the brand and use it for litch/zombie flavored SEO to get ad clicks. the 'community' is gone

Pinterest Is Drowning in a Sea of AI Slop and Auto-Moderation - Slashdot

Users say Pinterest has become flooded with AI-generated images and heavy-handed automated moderation, with artists reporting wrongful takedowns and their hand-drawn work mislabeled as "AI modified." As the company doubles down on AI features and layoffs, longtime users argue the platform's creative...

@Viss we have successfuly taught the children that everything is a lie and nothing matters. Its going to work out fine i am sure
@h2onolan ive already seen websites that look straight up 90s mode, with tiny rectangles for friend sites and webrings and shit.
@Viss glorious. No clankers allowed.
@h2onolan i get the impression the solution to finding out which users are clankers is gonna end up being easier than we thought because of some dumb, overlooked thing
@Viss @h2onolan have to Make ASCII art

layerone - layerone logo by viss

@BabblingGeek @h2onolan i think my uhi logos are way better than my layerone text. im still very much a noob
@Viss @h2onolan IRC days we used to try and make a boat collaboratively in chat. I wonder if AI can do that.

@BabblingGeek @h2onolan it cant. but there are collab drawing platforms both for freehand stuff assuming you have a tablet and like, clipstudio, and also for drawing ansi/ascii. i cant remember if it was mistigris or sixteencolors but one of them hosted a thing once, and i went to play on it. it was fun!

also there are still groups putting out .ans art packs. its nuts! i love it!

@Viss @h2onolan Honestly I think it’s gonna be like finding Nazi spies with the β€œWhat’s the second stanza of the Star Spangled Banner?” question.

You ask something absurd or difficult and see how they respond.

@Viss @h2onolan
Bring back marquee tags!
@unixjunk1e @h2onolan dude i miss the blink and marquee tags. i used them to great effect on cnn.com for years back when they had blatant xss they refused to fix
@Viss Pinterest felt like slop long before AI...
@unixjunk1e it totally did, yeah
@Viss #kagi search list of top domains blocked by their users is very telling. It was like this even before the proliferation of AI slop images.
@rickoooooo @Viss On the other hand, this is a good reminder that Kagi is pretty great.

@Viss Pinterest is drowning?

Good.

Oh, you want nuance? They've wasted tons of my time and bandwidth, I can only hope they're awake and aware while they go. Also, I hope it drags on and on and on AND ON.

Fuckers.

@Viss

i remember when imgur was first announced on reddit

with hindsight, i feel confident the SEO/clicks thing was the goal all along

@Viss your instagram account is drowning in ai slop too especially if the algorithm thinks you like them
@Viss I do not get why they do not sue them? I mean, PI illegally reassign the authorship from humans to someone else. And also PI kinda do reputational impact on real authors.
@Viss Pinterest was doing AI before it was AI: Laundering image ownership.
@Viss even if you have an account, that image quite often turned out to be a low res thumbnail and a dead link.
