Okay good people of the Fediverse!

The MacBook Pro 2015 is running on fumes (2nd battery, graphical glitches, flaky keys).

I used Linux quite a bit in grad school, but always, personally, had a Mac because it was "Unix-y" enough.

So ... does anyone have recommendations for a good laptop to slap Ubuntu on?

I need to:

-- Keep it under $1200 USD if possible.

-- Have at least one USB-A, HDMI and SD-Card slots.

I already use mostly FOSS, dumb flip-phone, etc.

Cheers

Here's what I do - I buy second-hand ex-corporate lease models from computer repair shops. It means the models are the pro versions of the cheap versions. Means better build and higher spec - they last longer and are more reliable. And about the same cost as the cheapo version. Because they are ex-lease means that anything that would fail has already done so, and has been repaired. Currently got an HP ProBook - very satisfied. Was about $500 USD. Installed Ubuntu.
