"The Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to rescind a landmark 2009 legal opinion that greenhouse gas emissions put human health at risk, which underpins many of the government’s actions to combat #climate change…A decision to completely rescind the endangerment finding is still a draft proposal and could be subject to change…The draft would also eliminate all resulting limits on motor vehicle greenhouse gas emissions."

EPA drafts rule to strike down landmark climate finding

The agency proposes to overturn the 2009 “endangerment finding,” which underpins nationwide greenhouse gas emission limits on vehicles and power plants.

The Washington Post

Update. It's happening. Tomorrow the #Trump #EPA will repeal the 2009 finding that greenhouse gases endanger human health. That "endangerment" finding allowed the EPA to regulate carbon emissions under the Clean Air Act. Its repeal will pave the way for the repeal of those regulations.

Trump EPA to gut key scientific finding underpinning US climate policy

The 2009 'endangerment finding' is the legal underpinning of nearly all US climate regulations for planet-heating emissions.

euronews

Update. The repeal of the endangerment finding is based on a recommendation from Trump's Climate Working Group. Less than two weeks ago, a federal judge ruled that the group violated federal law by failing to represent a balance of viewpoints (all five members were hand-picked skeptics) and failing to hold public hearings.

Clearly "the decision to change the policy was made ahead of assembling scientific evidence to support that decision."

PS: There will be legal challenges to the EPA repeal of the endangerment finding, and those challenges will cite the procedural violations in the operation of the Climate Working Group. But it's not yet clear how far those violations will undermine the EPA action.

Update. The #EPA endangerment finding is gone.

"The Trump administration has revoked the bedrock scientific determination which gives the government the ability to regulate climate-heating pollution. The move was described as a gift to 'billionaire polluters' at the expense of Americans’ health…Environmental advocates have condemned the move as illegal. A slew of green groups have promised to take EPA to court over the rollback."

Update. Lee Zeldin, the head of Trump's #EPA, told an audience of #ClimateSkeptics that they should "celebrate vindication". He was referring to the EPA's repeal of the 2009 "endangerment finding" that allowed the agency to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

Zeldin tells climate skeptics to 'celebrate' endangerment finding repeal

The head of the Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday defended his decision to repeal the legal determination that serves as the basis for federal rules to slow climate change. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin told a group of climate change skeptics that repeal of the 2009 “endangerment finding” reversed decades of unthinking adherence to liberal politicians and environmental groups about the dangers of climate change. Today "is a day to celebrate vindication,″ said Zeldin. The former Republican congressman is widely believed to be under consideration for a possible promotion to attorney general. Environmentalists accused Zeldin of “rallying climate deniers” at a time when climate change is creating greater risks of extreme weather.

Well they've been going at properly. They've burned first the books, 21st century style, that means deleted the datasets, forbidden hundreds keywords in scientific grants and publishing plus government communications (yes it's not as iconic as a nice fire with books, but the effect will be more brutal).

Hint what will the Bible trained US scientists use to drive strategies against climate change caused crop failures? Oh right the datasets on weather

patterns (forbidden climate knowledge) have been mostly deleted in the USA. Cooperating with foreign scientists who talk about climate change and evolution? Surely you do not want to get into conflict with the church of the GOP? @petersuber

@petersuber
Shrug, I'm not saying that the EPA decision is not bad stuff, but the big picture what the Trump regime is doing to US science is a magnitude or more worse.

And don't forget, Germany was a scientist and engineering power house before WWII, and the Nazis did unmeasurable damage to that. (Still the allies started collecting German scientists literally hours after the war ended.)

Wonder if von Braun still had his SS tattoos during the moon landings. We don't know it was not documented
