for the plot of this movie to work they need to establish that this guy is suddenly direly interested in this doll and is willing to sacrifice his wife to get a closer look at it, which totally tracked for 1950's audiences #monsterdon

so the movie revolves around the hypnotist trying to mind control and fuck marianne and the dummy trying to get free. so again it seems like if the dummy is free then all conflicts resolve and he gets to go off and be like a longshoreman in baltimore or whatever he wants to do #monsterdon

i gotta admit i'm pretty lost and only sticking around to see the dummy get free #monsterdon
holy shit we have 20 minutes left and we're doing a full "visit the old country and discover the origin of the dummy" instead of getting 15 minutes of dummy carnage #monsterdon

usually masculine paranoia is a scourge but i admit i would find it awfully fishy if my wife told me she was running away with a hypnotist #monsterdon
I come back to the movie for a moment to discover that the husband has just totally accepted it as normal that his wife is running away with the hypnotist and is just moving on with his life???? or did i mistake what happened in that scene i half watched #monsterdon
"OK fine i guess" #monsterdon
So uh the dummy just uh popped that other doll (?)'s head and then was able to mind swap with the hypnotist because uh... .. and then the entire plot with the wife just sort of evaporated and was... unrelated... #monsterdon
ok i'm watching back and the last 5 minutes are just a trainwreck. they spent most of the movie on the marianne subplot and they literally wrapped it up with three scenes:
- marianne says "whelp i'm running off with the hypnotist" and the husband says literally nothing
- husband just sort of accepts that as being fine despite spending the whole movie investigating the hypnotist and his supernatural abilities to control peoples minds with "dang i can't believe my wife fell in love with that hypnotist, oh well"
- the husband appears with no explanation in the hypnotist's den immediately after the dummy has mind swapped with him and problem solved marianne is fine
