@marcohackney "The EU" by which I guess they mean *institutional* EU is no more complex than any national bureaucracy (especially if you have a bicameral parliament) and anyone claiming to be a grownup citizen whining about it can just go try to complain to Ingeborg about it as far as I'm concerned:

@marcohackney @Veza85UE in all honesty that quote at the end of the clip is quite offensive. As a former EU citizen born and living in a current EU member country, I've been told for at least 40 years that if I don't like the political climate to fuck off back to my own country. This is a line that crypto-fascists use. When we didn't like racist Black Peter, fuck off back to your own country. When we complain about institutional racism, fuck off back to your own country.

I hate populists as much as any sane person, and anyone telling people to fuck off back to their own country can't be trusted

@webhat @marcohackney She's very much trying to offend the people "cashing massive EU salaries" in that clip and telling them to fuck off and do what the Brits did if they don't like it. Even if it weren't a silly comedy show, I'd still support offending those people we pay thousands of euros every month to spit on us. It's not about you, but about parasitical hypocrites in positions of power. You might like her dunk on the Dutch tho.

@marcohackney @Veza85UE I don't disagree with the sentiments, just with the words she used to state them. Thanks for sharing, I'll take a look
@marcohackney I hope enough people recognize these advantages of the #EU. - Otherwise many members states have growing far-right movements and parties... what is it that they don't understand?!
@marcohackney wie hieß es im Leben des Brian: Was haben uns die Römer schon gebracht…
@marcohackney One Thing to correct: No, you have NOT the same working rights in the EU countrys. There are no EU wide working rights, each country have their own. Please do not spread wrong things.
Here's an article in german that shows how different are working rights in the countrys:

@onlytina @marcohackney I agree it's misleading, but what EU is probably referring to: you have the same rights in the other country as its citizens. (For example, when I was studying in France, there was some student subsidy thing, and because of EU rules, us Erasmus students were entitled, too.)

@marcohackney

Yes, you can travel and work with the same rights,

But, why are Polish, Romanian, Slovenian and Bulgarian workers still exploited in NL and many other (richer) EU member states?

@marcohackney @chasalin I think that's in part an abuse of the Posted Worker directive. The employer pretends that these workers are only temporarily posted to the Netherlands and that their normal place of work is in another country with lower employment rights and wages

@bwh

That's definitely part of it. Plus that the workers don't know their rights and agree to a lot of things because it's better than no job at all.

@marcohackney

@marcohackney can they also please let me have encrypted messaging
@marcohackney what does the second image mean? free mobile data roaming? I've never had that on any of my phone plans!
@yukijoou
If You have a data plan in any EU country, the plan still applies when visiting a different EU country. Before 2017 local providers could (and did) apply extra roaming charges:

@pink @marcohackney well, in my experience, it works abroad, but you only get like ~10% of the data you can use at home, sooo
@pink @marcohackney @yukijoou And after 3 months abroad your provider starts charging you for roaming.
@rhelune
It looks like providers can be exempted to avoid massive costs due to roaming (the providers still have to pay for the transfer). Probably written down somewhere in the terms and conditions.
@marcohackney @yukijoou
@yukijoou
Does this apply to volume or transfer speed? i.e. in Germany the speed is generally lower because of bad infrastructure. The volume should not be affected. Also not all countries are part of it like Switzerland.
@marcohackney
@pink @marcohackney volume! my current plan has unlimited data at home, but only 20gb/month in the EU
@yukijoou
Oh of course, this works only inside the EU. You need a data plan from a provider from a EU country. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
@marcohackney
@pink @marcohackney i am inside the eu tho- sorry that was maybe unclear
at home = Ireland (republic of) in my case
in the eu = anywhere in the union but ireland, in my case, france

@yukijoou
Ok, that is weird. I would say this should work. Maybe @aral knows something about roaming from #Ireland.
Maybe a complaint to the corresponding irish or EU office can help.

@marcohackney

@pink @yukijoou @marcohackney Yeah, it’s free roaming but with a data cap. To be fair, I’ve never hit the cap.

(Compare to non-EU where, if you forget to turn off your data, you can easily find yourself with a €50 bill or more by the time you realise your mistake between the airport and the hotel. Yes, that’s experience talking from the before times.)

@marcohackney anyway services provide by Europe are to wealthy and white people by design...
So. why all the deregulation with the omnibuses?
@gregorSamsa @marcohackney What kind of parties did EUropeans vote for in the last decade at national level, thus giving them power over the two institutions that actually make these decisions for the EU? What kind of governments do we give power to in the Council(s)? Which party have EUropeans given control over the lower chamber of the EU legislative in the last 5 EUropean elections?
@marcohackney I still have to pay for beer. I WANT FREE BEER.
@marcohackney I sure the dude who created "yes/but" is really happy to see his idea stolen by Europe 😅
(i don't care, he's not funny anymore)
@marcohackney und wer einmal ein Päckchen in die Schweiz geschickt hat weiß wie schön es in der EU ist.
