@chris And it is so short-term view. EVs are catching up very quickly and beating fuel cars. Autonomy is getting better, prices are going down, and as you wrote: operation cost blasts fuel cars.

An EV mandate is not just a requirement to tackle emissions, it's a matter of survival for car makers. Giving them an incentive to slow down the electrification of their product range is a lethal poison. They'll be wiped out of the market and by the time they realize it, it will be too late to catch up with the competition.

The only way to save them will be more tariffs, until North America looks like the Soviet Unions with its crap cars.

@matlag @chris the ev thing is a shame really. i can never purchase and drive a modern car with all its bullshit electronics and computers and touchscreens.... not to mention SO UGLY.

tho it is becoming harder and harder to buy a car old enough to avoid all that crap.

walkable city for me i guess.

@barrygoldman1 @matlag fully hear that. the BS electronics are wholly unnecessary and superfluous to the functioning of the car. Imagine a 1982 style toyota corrola... electricfied... one can dream.
@chris @matlag nice dream! my dream is a 90s volvo station wagon
