I am trying to de-meta my social media.
I am still very confused as to how Mastadon works. Which of the algorithm deities do I need to pray to in order to find real people???

jz.tuskYup. Step 1 is hashtags, hashtags, hashtags. I recommend 25 minimum, more is better.
Got an interest? Follow that hashtag: #art, #gaming, #photography , #music ....
Get more specific: #bostonphotography , #retrogaming , #hiphop ....
And don't forget geographical tags, for your city!

Gail Parenti@seolucius Welcome! You'll be glad to know that you are the algorithm here! I second the suggestion that you follow hashtags of interest, and consider putting them in your introduction. Here are some of my favorites: #SilentSunday #Bloomscrolling and #Asstodon (totally not what you think). You are sure to find kind, real, quirky people.
Also, add at least some details to your profile. Right now yours is empty, so people might be a bit suspicious that you're a bot or something.
2-3 items is enough. "I'm from the mid-West and I like The Office, Mexican food, and my dog"

There aren't any algorithm deities on here, that's one of the best things. Everything that happens is under your control.

Pick a few hashtags to follow, make sure you include plenty of relevant ones in your own posts, and connections will happen pretty quickly.
