I have the start of a drive train. All modelled using dimensions I have actually measured now my parts orders have started to arrive. #HackyRacer
Quite a few parts to measure now so I can design the chassis to fit around everything.
One down, six more to go. #hackyracers #cad
Good progress this week on the CAD modelling of the alloy parts I bought for my A2 Hacky Racer. I started designing the rear wheel assembly tonight. #HackyRacers #CAD #robotics
Two steps forwards, one step back. Just as I had got the gear meshing really nicely tuned with the nice differentials I bought, I realised the dogbone cups on them were too large for the dogbones my suspension arms need. Luckily they came with another pair of differentials but they are a different size to the others in all dimensions, so several hours of CAD later and we are doing test fit prints again. #HackyRacers
How did things get so complicated! Many iterations later, I am printing my final-final-final test fit parts. #HackyRacers #CAD
Parts that weren’t right (so far).
#3dprinting
Alright! Things finally all fit together!
#Robotic #HackyRacer
A lot of progress on the CAD model for my #HackyRacers A2 class autonomous racer since I last posted about it. Parts for the steering linkages arrived and tonight I measured and modelled these. So now I have a working CAD steering assembly to tune the dimensions of.
@drfootleg I used to do rc cars. Going to ask you how things fit when the humidity changes.....
@cyclops_ @drfootleg back when they were made out of wood? Or is this more recently with 3D printing? I must have missed both. 🀨
@theolodian @cyclops_ I’m curious too as to what might change with humidity. There is plenty of tolerance in the drive chain here for the suspension to move. I’ve not had either alloy parts or 3D prints change noticeably with humidity before.
@drfootleg @cyclops_ interesting. My 3D prints were never close enough to dimensionally correct to worry about changing size from the humidity. πŸ€”πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«
@theolodian @cyclops_ Same here. The only thing humidity has ever affected in my experience is how well some filament prints if it has not been dried well (not for PLA or ABS).
@drfootleg ah the prototyping pile of shame, I know it so well.
@drfootleg can you make dogbones that adapt from one end to the other?
